3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 callmemickey (804) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 20, 2012
A: Dark brown-red body, thin khaki foam, moderate lacing..
S: Strong spice notes pair well with the strong yeast presence. Pepper, caramelized sugar and roasted malts.
T: More of the same from the nose. The taste is heavily spiced. Hearty malt body... booze comes through quite a bit... lingering yeast goodness
M: Smooth, solid carbonation, spice and alcohol leave a slight burn
O: A solid dark strong ale from a relatively unknown brewer courtesy of 12% imports.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 wedgie9 (1441) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 1, 2011
Tasted on 6/21/11 from a 330mL bottle. Pours clear, very dark amber with a thin beige head that recedes to nothing more than a thin collar of lace. The nose is very roasty with coffee, dark chocolate, toast, prune juice, a bit of alcohol heat, and a hint of burnt bitterness. The flavor is fruitier than the nose, almost a bit tart, with chocolate and coffee underlying. The body is full, with an oily texture, average carbonation, and a long dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and tannic finish.

Aroma of sweet caramelly malts, nutty notes, anise and other spices, banana and faint roastiness. The taste is surprisingly tart, with tart stone fruit and cherry notes. A bit of roastiness and chocolate. Faint spices in the finish. Medium bodied. Interesting.
