On tap at Brickskeller in DC. Reminded me a lot of Houblon. Nice American fruity, resin-y hop flavors combined with fruity esters from a belgian yeast strain. For american hops I might guess Cascade and/or Centennial/Amarillo. I didn’t taste any pungent Columbus/Summit type thing going on; strictly clean bittering hops with Cascade deriviatves at the end and in the dry hop. Very drinkable, nice and dry, not too sweet. Got better and better as it warmed up. Tsted it in conunction with Urthel Hop-it. I liked this one better, as I think it was more balanced. Excellent.

Tap at The Belgian Room. Hazy cloudy deep golden/orange beer with a very creamy white head. Aroma is very yeasty and spicy showing cardomom, cinnamon and spicy noble hops mixed in as well. Zesty fresh saaz hops along with American-style juicy tropical hops. Sweet orange peel, mango, a bit of wheaty character and a spicy yeasty flavour as well. Moderate bitterness, but great fresh fruity hop flavour from start to finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Very tasty brew.

Body that’s a hazy gold with a minimal white head. Sweet aroma, floral with some light fruits. Fruits and hops dominate the flavor, citrus accents being the most prevalent.

Clear, amber body. Creamy, off-white head. Quite complex aroma of vanilla and hops. The flavours is very well balanced and complex. A lot of hops making it moderately bitter, lightly sweet. A very nice beer with a lovely flavour.

Had this last night at Boston’s Belgian Beer Fest- the brewer himself pulled it from the tap and told me all about his collaboration - it was loud, and it was hard for me to understand his accent, so I though it was the Houblon at first, but as he spoke, and I sipped, I knew it was a totally different animal - I don’t much care for Brooklyn Blast, but that Chouffe yeast has worked magic on this recipe - where the blast is overly carbonated and abrasive, the gnomette has a more natural, soft carbonation - the hop profile seems much more balanced, and the citrus character such a high hop profile provides mingles well with the fruity esters produced by the belgian yeast - this was one of the better beers at the fest - Brooklyn will be brewing this recipe soon, with some variations, and releasing it as Cuvee D’Achouffe - hopefully it will be as good.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2006 Draught Good orangey tinted head, leaving textbook lace, over fully hazy orange-ochre beer. Extremely flowery, hoppy nose - this is Garrett and either he’s used masses of superb Europe hops, or a good deal of American ones. Dry and perfumey at the same time. Stunning!. Again very flowery taste, perfumey flavours, with dry, definitely USA-style hops, citrussy, resiny,.. WOW! No new aftertaste, but long lasting flavours. Well-bodied, grist slickness, resiny afterthought, lingering after every sip. Absolutely SUPERB. This is the final accomodation of America to Belgian beer. Love it!
