3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: A competent basic roasted nitro-stout. Think “beefed-up Guinness”, that’s it
How: Nitro-tap at brewpub
The look: Black body topped by a large dark-beige head with good retention
In long: Nose is very roasted with light notes of herbaceous notes. Taste is creamy blackened cereals, milky notes, semi-corpulent body, some nice herbal hops, burnt toasts. Mouthfeel is a big fluffy expansive nitro bubble extravaganza. All those roasted stouts served uber-super-nitro tend to taste a bit similar so they become hard to rate. This one is surely without any problem and very drinkable, but also nothing special. I am one of the few "not cool" dude who thinks Guinness is not an atrocity, just a bland beer, and Cachotière was like a slightly more corpulent Guinness, quite drinkable to me. For a nitro roasted stout it is average, for a beer from La Captive, it is as good as it gets. I entered "Great La Captive beer" in my search engine and it came back with "Great La Captive beer beer cannot be found"…. Google really knows everything.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Drank on tap (325 ml) at the brewpub on July 14, 2012. Black, medium head. Coffee fruity aroma, not bitter. Dry coffee taste, hints of chocolate, dry bitterness. A some what fair stout!

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
My Bottom Line :
Coffee flavors and roasted bitterness are pretty much all of what’s going on in this bloated dark ale.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-Endlessly cascading nitrogenated foam eventually settles on the brown-edged black.
-This tastes like there is a very low percentage of dark malts, just enough to get a dark-colored brew...
-Nitro is overdone in this one, making the mouthfeel too airy, like drinking slightly liquefied whipped cream.
-Malts are the only purveyors of flavor and they are quite shy.
On tap at the brewpub.
