| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 2, 2007 11.2oz bottle. Served in a St Bernardus goblet. Hazy clear brown ale with a small beige head that quickly drops to a skim and a ring, but laces the glass a little. Pleasant aroma of sweet dark malt and prunes and plums. Slightly boozy aroma also. Flavor is full and rich with dark fruits (dates), heavy sweet malts, and the alcohol is not timid but mixes well. Very complex brew with serious hops and notable bitterness. Body is medium full. Caramel and spice in the finish. A delicious and thoroughly enjoyable Belgian strong brown ale. drewbeerme (2316), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 25, 2007 Cloudy chestnut color with a 1 cm thick white head. Sweet yeast and malt mix, mild spice, and weakly sour smell. Medium-bodied, well-carbonated. At first, there’s a bit of a tartness to the taste that mellows out with time. Caramel tones and some yeastiness throughout. Enjoyable, and more tastes and flavors came out as it warmed. imdownthepub (5191), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

Big fruity beer, sweet, toffee like, aromatic, smooth. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 23, 2007 Aroma of spicy dark fruits. Dark reddish copper color with a beige head that rapidly flattened. A bit thin, but the significant, non-biting, carbonation creams and thickens as it leaves. For flavor there is dark fruit - plum, raisin, berry. Something of caramel. Followed by a touch of n-amyl acetate. I could accept that there is some diacetyl. It’s just so wonderful in the mouth. A very smooth brown, which still manages to carry along a hint of dirt and grunge. Not a bad thing, it provides that authentic grittiness. The palate is near staggering. The finish is primarily dry, but the sweet fruitiness helps the ale avoid astringency. Quite marvelous. AR (438), Georgia, USA
