Sweet yeasty aroma. 2 levels of sweetness in the taste. An immediate brown sugar sweetness, and then an alcohol bite sweetness comes through. Fairly thick. thornecb (1820), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Hum... a funky, warm, sweet treat. From a 750. Best before end of 2006. Bottle slightly protenized. The beer is a hazy, dark, ruby-brown color with a small, white, frothy, mostly and rapidly diminishing head. The aroma says aged and estery. Malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, cookie and caramel; Hoppy with a moderate herbal note; Yeasty with a heavy note of basement, light note of band aid; Moderate miscellaneous notes of spicy alcohol, dried stone fruit, raisins/dates, light notes of wood, candy sugar and sherry/cognac, ever so slightly vinous like a red. The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, trace bitter with a long, warm, moderately bittersweet, lightly acidic, trace astringent finish. Slight strawberry/mint retro. The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. DuffMan (2786), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

Smells sweet and dusty and yeasty. Brown sugar and yeast come first with some estery fruit. A solid belgian ale. moejuck (1172), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 4, 2006 This brew pours a dark brown color with red mixed in. Very little head in the pour--almost none. The aroma is very nice. Smells of candied apples and caramels. The taste is also heavy in the sweet malt department, but not too sweet to be considered one dimensional. The background malt provides some nice stability to this beer. Easy to drink, and very pleasant." ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 14, 2006 Lovely, sweet Belgian candi-sugar aroma. Dark, cloudy amber, large, light tan head, mostly diminishing. No lace. I may be having issues with my glass washing tonight. Strong, sweet, Belgian candi-sugar flavor. Some molasses, caramel. Heavily carbonated mouthfeel, but not the champagne super-carbonation of some Belgian brews. A really nice brew. A treat; could pass for a dessert beer.
