stoutlover72 (1315), NorCal, California, USA Apr 10, 2008 Another fantastic beer from the brewers at La Caracole. My first go around with Ambree was a great experience and this only built upon that. The beer poured out a deep mahogany brown color, slightly hazy with a nice light khaki head that stayed about 1/4" of the entire pint. A nice, complex aroma of dark fruits, spices, earth/mushrooms, and raisin bread. Mouthfeel is prickly and carbonated. Flavors of mushrooms/wet dirt, dark fruits, overripe bananas, and molasses. There’s quite a bit of sweetness left in the beer, so that was probably what I enjoyed as well. Definitely recommended.
bb (2001), Martinez, California, USA Jul 26, 2008 Draft. Dark mahogony brown beer with an off-white head. Caramel and light spice aroma. Caramel flavor with plum/raisin/fig fruit, yeast, and light spice. Medium bodied. Lingering caramel, plum/raisin, and yeast. BoBoChamp (329), Gent, Belgium Jul 26, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, balanced, hazy, small head, very good brew, the best of the Caracole-range ahammervold (1), Corvallis, Oregon, USA does not count Jul 22, 2008 I really enjoyed this beer. I tried it for the first time at the Portland International Beer Festival. Derek881 (295), Frederick, Maryland, USA Jul 19, 2008 I enjoyed this fine Belgian strong ale on draft at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. The aroma had a fig and raisin matlyness with some toffee and caramel notes too. It was a somewhat cloudy brown to dark-amber color with a thin, white head that had short retention. Flavor was a nice, sweet raisin and fruity character and very good. It had a full and wet mouthfeel, was super creamy, and featured a light kick at the end, with hardly any trace of alcoholic dryness. Definitely a top of the line ale. Doggythedog (921), Split, Croatia Jul 17, 2008 Bottle provided by Ungstrup I think at the RBESG08 grand tasting (so a thanks to him!) Opaque dark brown body, very fizzy, huge carbonation, with a thick, nice beige head that went away slowly... Very dusty malty nose, a bit herbal and some notes of caramel. Quite malty, sweet taste mingling with a light appley sourness. Very dusty again, light notes of metal. Not my type of BSA I guess.
