3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Aroma is of yeast and fruit. Flavor is similar but also with caramel and spice. Doesn’t have much of an alcohol burn that I would expect from something that tastes like this. I read a review that said it was "complex, yet boring". That’s so completely apt. This was 5 bucks for a bottle, so I’ve got to say there’s no way I’ll be grabbing this again all things considered. But it does have a solid amount of alcohol (even if it could’ve been more)! And I still say it’s actually very, very good! I just feel like maybe there was some lost potential here, should’ve been a much bigger beer. 9% abv.

"pours a murky brown, poured vigorously to get a good amount of head. aroma is unpleasantly coppery & lemony, with some pleasant spices hidden underneath. the flavor is more of the same (i was expecting much better based on previous ratings). nice yeasty flavor, but the astringency takes over at he finish. if i didn’t know better, i’d swear this was either the same style or the same brewer as the belgian "Scotch Silly" i had yesterday. Another disapointment."

250ml bottle served in a Duvel tulip glass.
A :Pours a dark amber to brown color forming a big bubbled, fluffy and fizzy tan head that dissipates quickly leaving only few spotty lacings in the glass
S: Classic Belgian Strong Dark Ale: Very sweet and fruity in the nose. Strong notes of dark fruits, like plums and raisins. Also strong notes of Belgian-like bready yeasts. Toffee, caramel malts, crystal malts. A bit spicy. Boozy in the end
T: Follows the nose. Strong notes of dark fruits like plums and raisins. Strong notes of toffee, candy sugar, caramel malts, roasted malts, crystal malts. A little bit metallic taste. A light bitter hop finish
M: Heavy body. Medium carbonation. Black fruits in the aftertaste
O: Good drinkability. Classic Belgian Strong Dark Ale

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer has a dark brown color and a nice cream colored head with a lot of bubbles. The aroma is malty, like roasted malts, clear tones of caramel, licorice and the sweetness of dark fruits. The taste is rich, warming, little piquant in the mouth with liquorice, mocha flavors, pear and toasted bread background. The finish is a little alcoholic, warming and has a nice bitterness. A very good strong ale, the best caracole has to offer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Location: Draft at Morrison’s, 9/22/14
Aroma: The nose is sweet malts, dark fruit, pepper/spice, chocolate, licorice, and some booze
Appearance: It pours a brownish-red color with a beige head and some decent lacing
Flavor: The taste is heavy sweet, fairly unbalanced, not quite cloying, but close
Palate: The body is medium-full, it has a bit of heat, and feels sticky as it coats the mouth
I was pretty surprised not to have rated this one before, but hey, as Nick would say, "A tick is a tick!" This one is quite sweet overall. Some flavorful stuff. It could probably use a little balance.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Strong winter warmer with thick, beige, regular, stable head and very dark burgundy colour with ruby hue, hazy. Strong aroma of chocolate, banana, pear, plum, melon, coffee, walnuts, port wine, liqueur, cinnamon, liquorice, brown sugar. Rich and full maltiness, sweet, fruity, very chocolatey with medium carbo and well-rounded, mild, coffee powder-like roasted bitterness, as well as aromatic hops in the finish and warming alcohol not becoming astringent in any way. Very tasty and beefy, typical Scotch-style Belgian Christmas ale, honest and satisfying. I liked this very much.
