Hazy yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma of bananas, citrus and bubble-gum. The flavor has bubble-gum and restrained fruity esters. The body is medium with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad, but seems to need some work to be really good.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2009 Bouteille 500ml.

Another full-bodied offering from La Chouape, this is a limey Hefeweizen with a strong bubblegummy side and fair banana notes. It avoids the juicy side of things, remaining ample all the way through. Its yeastiness may not be very phenolic, but it develops aromatic bready notes. A bit mineral more than hoppy in the finish and softly carbonated for a hefe, which accentuates the thickness feeling.

(Rating #2005)

My Bottom Line:
Modest banana esters get pushed aside by a bready yeast, as citrusy wheat attempts to increase drinkability in this simple and lean German-style Hefeweizen.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slim veil of foam skirts the cloudy yellowish white.
-This was served with a lime wedge; it was hard to make its juiciness disappear from the rim of the pint glass.
-The mouthfeel is not really authentic; thinner and not as comfortable in its frothy carbonation. Almost Witbier-like, as a matter of fact.
-Although its lack of authenticity and structured flavors might displease some craft beer lovers, one cannot say this is not well-brewed.

On tap at the brewpub.
