COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

500ml bottle. Bright golden with a thick frothy meringue-like white head. Slight haze. Flavors are cereals, hay, lemon, tropical fruits, herbs and pepper with floral and earthy notes. Light tartness. Light body, bright carbonation, slick texture. Dry, herbal and lemony finish.

Pour was a bit of a geyser, but I was expecting given the style, and age of this bottle (July, 2014). I also bought it from a store that only recently started stocking La Chouape, so I guess they must’ve had a few cases left over from last year. Anyhoo. Pour is hazy gold with a massive, foamy, frothy white cap that blooms like a mushroom cloud and fades ever so slowly. The nose is pretty much dominated by pungent yeast aromas, with hay and lightly roasted grain underneath. Would like to try this fresh, as I feel like it would smell better. Taste-wise it still shines. Light grainy malt, lots of bitter, slightly sour lemony citrus, pungent yeast, light pepper. Body is light-medium, carbonation is sharp and fizzy, and the finish is long and bitter, with lingering lemon and piney/resinous hops. Damned drinkable stuff, especially on this sunny, warm spring day, and very sessionable.

Pours a clear golden with a huge frothy white head. Nose is strong peppery, spicy Saison yeast with citrus and grape aromas. I get some funk too. Taste is refreshingly fruity and peppery with lots of esters. A long light and smooth bitterness. Light body with high carbonation. Great refreshing light and low ABV Saison!

[Bottle (500ml)] As ’Saison à l’Ancienne’. Pours a hazy pale gold with a huge fluffy semi-lasting white head and minimal lacing. Nice aroma of pepper, other spices, citrus, light hops, tropical fruit, wheat and herbs. Flavour’s also nice and follows the aroma. Spicy finish. Medium bodied. This really worked for me, quite good.

Pours a glowing golden color with three fingers of rocky white foam that lasts throughout the life of the beer. Aromas are dusty hay, citrus zest spicy earthy yeast and traces of pepper and floral grass. Palate follows the nose nicely with great refreshing carbonation, punchy yeast character, spicy hops, peppery and lots of complex layers. Even maybe a touch of brett character that adds to the abrasively bitter dry finish !

Corps moyen, carbonation moyenne. Une bonne bière!

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty dark beige color ale with a large foamy head with great retention and some good lacing. Aroma of rustic malt with peppery and spicy notes is quite enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by rustic malt with some peppery and spicy yeast and a dry finish. Body is quite full with great carbonation. Great level of complexity while retaining some good drinkability and keeping the ABV at a moderate level.
