4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dink (40) - Sudbury, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 3, 2011
Bottle poured into a Duvel glass, looks really great as it hits the bottom of the glass and forms pillow white head. Banana, clove, apple, rising bread noticed in the smell. On tasting, there’s bread, spices, apple, pear, grape and definite oranges, mandarin maybe? Dry and sweet. Not too carbonated. Think I might have liked more hop bitterness to it, not sure if that’s the style or not. Still, much enjoyed having this much great beer in one sitting, 750ml, which is rare to me.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 matthasson (253) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2011
Bright golden color, dazzling in the sunlit window. A big white frothy head sits a top with small bubbles rapidly pushing up against it. Looks spectacular. The smell is zesty with peppery spices, cloves, coriander, and lemon peels. The taste shows off a delicious blend of sweet pale malt. Some funky yeast notes in there characteristic of a Belgian. Coriander is obvious in the herbal fruity profile. The body feels light, the carbonation is not harsh, but rather delicate. Very easy to drink, and the alcohol is well hidden. Short dry aftertaste brings an end to this well crafted beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beer Snob (457) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 2, 2011
Large head o a nice golden body. Aroma of some bread and a hint of grassiness. Taste was unspectacular, clean with a bit of residual sweetness.
Very filling - gassy - and quite nice, although in all honesty, I prefer the local versions of this type of Belgian - at least they arrive at the store t the height of freshness.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 cyrenaica (745) - Milton, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 1, 2011
750ml bottle
8.0% ABV
I tried this beer on November 20, 2010 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. It was shared with fellow beerpal lenusik. The beer poured a hazy straw gold colour with a rocky off-white head fed by good effervescence. The aroma was soap, spice, yeast, citrusy hops, and malt. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. The flavour was yeasty, with some spiciness and malt, and a citrusy hop finish.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 GatheringBrews (45) - Derby, Vermont, USA - JAN 1, 2011
Prefer the N’Ice Chouffe, but only by a nose. A really nice beer, pours a white, puffy head with aromas of citrus and spice. Excellent body and smooth, balanced mouthfeel.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kjc51478 (277) - Cologne, GERMANY - DEC 30, 2010
330ml Bottle. Pours a hazy copper yellow color with a medium, quickly dissipating head. Aroma is of citrus fruits and slight herbal, spruce hint. Taste is tropical citrus like pineapple and banana on the front end with a definite herbal hop flavor following into the middle. Finishing is grassy and herbal hops. The beer is a little oily on the palate but has a nice medium body.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Yves (1553) - Turnhout, BELGIUM - DEC 29, 2010
Clear goldblond coloured beer with small white head and no carbonation visible. Yeasty bit hoppy aroma. Medium wattery palate. Finish is hoppy ending sweet and dry.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 neuromatt (610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 25, 2010
750 mL bottle from the SAQ, served in a snifter. Pours hazy straw-golden with a moderate rocky white head. The head fades slowly to a thin cover. The nose has aromas of flowers and grass, with pale malts, straw and a slight lemon-citrus quality. The flavour is well balanced between moderately sweet malts and herbal-resinous hops. The hops enter towards the end. The finish is long and lingering herbal hops. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice honey-sweet brew balanced with herbal hops. It is surprisingly full in body and is excellent overall. 2010-12-24
