nice belgian ale brewed with spices that really come alive with the hoppiness of the flavor. looks and smells like a good belgian ale, but i think the difference with this one compared with a lot of belgian pales is the spices. almost witbier-like in its characteristics without the yeasty cloudiness. some hop tang to the flavor once you have gotten past the spice from the front of the tongue. delicious, refreshing, and enough of an abv kick that you know youre having a beer with a little punch to it.

Bottle, pours golden with a nice big white head, very lively carbonation, aroma is spices and a bit of yeast, taste is sweet malt balanced with spices, finish is slightly bitter and somewhat abrupt.

La Chouffe is a super lively, slightly hazy golden with lots of floaters. It has a huge, fluffy, white head that has outstanding retention and lacing. It has a warm aroma of spice, fruit, bread and phenol. It’s pretty light bodied and very smooth. The finish is clean, dry and delicate. Wow, it tastes fruity! I detect apple, pear, peach, cherry and maybe some dried fruit. The finish is earthy, leathery, peppery and phenolic. This beer is a treat! This would be just as appropriate on a hot summer day or a cold winter night.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2010 750 ml bottle. Pours bright, deep golden. Slightly hazy and with a big white head. Nose is spicy, peppery, with grassy hops and some banana and mild unripe peach notes. The spice is lovely. Taste shows more of the banana and peach. Dry palate. Funny, I had half the bottle yesterday afternoon and corked it to finish tonight. Wasn’t really into it yesterday, but it’s just what I want tonight. Wonderful.

2010 Bottle in my hotel room in Louisville Kentucky...it would be too early to drink on a Monday back home, but seeing as I jumped two time zones, not that bad in context...Pours a thick and clear dk golden with a medium sized off white head...aroma is very fruity, honey, plum and apple, light banana and plenty of spice...flavour is similar, a bit drier in the mouth, but creamy and still showing tons of fruit and caramel, with a very light bitterness on the end...tasty

330ml bottle. Golden yellow in colour with a persistent frothy white head. Aroma is nice and estery, fruity with hints of spice. On the palate it is very lively and medium bodied. Flavour is fruity, yeasty, and earthy.

I am new to craft beer drinking and rating. I was provided four beers and tried them, and am now rating them, together. They were Stone IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, La Chouffe, and Great Divide Oak Aged Chocolate Yeti. Of these four, my favorite was Stone IPA, then the Yeti, then Stone Ruination and finally the La Chouffe. This beer was just not to my taste or liking. I much preferred the Stone IPA.
