corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a hazy golden color with a huge foamy white head. Spicy aroma with lots of crisp fruit notes. Flavor evry similar with nice amount of spice and hops balancing out the apple, pear and grpe flavors. Very quaffable. As I recall, this was an above average Belgian strong ale. Hugh (129), Breda, Netherlands May 7, 2008 Draught. Right, down to business: It’s been ruined. I haven’t bought Chouffe for a couple of years, and it was more than a disappointment. What have Moortgat done to this once great beer? Where it used to be cloudy, full bodied and aromatic in that way so characteristic of Wallonian beers, the beer served here is a typical big brewery flemish tripel, and as bland as can be. So clear it could be filtered, little aroma and a corny flavour, sticky mf and rapidly disappearing carbonation. If this is the current state of this beer, then its overall rating here is misleading and ratings should be started again from zero. This is not the beer on which most of these 788 rates is based. At the time, I considered going straight to the brewery and punching someone. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA May 7, 2008 Graduation presant from Jo Marie Troyer. La Chouffe is a clear orange colored beer with floating yeast on the bottom and a light orange head. The aroma of powerful and full of malt, oranges and other spices. The flavor is very nice and mimics the aroma with sweet malts, oranges and other spices. This is a very unintimidating belgian strong ale. carruthm (1109), Seattle, Washington, USA May 2, 2008 spiced, golden ale. Bit murky pour with thin head. Lots of fruits and spices in the nose and taste. Bananas and orange noticeable. very good. RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 28, 2008 Aroma is a mild fruity yeast scent. Color is a hazy yellow with good carbonation and a thin but tight head. Taste is light and fruity. Starting with a light/medium body it goes down with a fizzy feel. Finish comes in creamy with a sweet fruity and yeasty bread like flavors and a little citrus, then ends with a mild bitterness. After taste has a slight hint of alcohol with a light Belgian yeast taste. Its a good brew but after a bit I did notice a slight skunk, another brewery that for some dumb ass reason puts a good beer in a crap green bottle. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Apr 22, 2008 On Tap at Julian’s in Providence. Pours cloudy orange with a huge white head. Aroma of banana, grass, yeast, and citrus. Flavor of grass, citrus, and slightly spicy. Finish is slightly bitter. Medium mouthfeel. Nicely complex beer. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Apr 18, 2008 750 pours a hazed yellow to orange gold with a large bright white head that clings and laces well. The aroma is yeasty, floral, sunshine meadow, fruity, and coriander. The flavor has an initial honey sweetness, followed by spice, some slight hop presence, and a lingering banana like note followed by slight sour citrus. The body is lively and refreshing. The alcohol is well hidden. Overall, I’m glad I finally tried this one.
