Strong spicy nose on this gold beer. Plenty of white head. Spicy sweet body with a lot of alcohol dominant.

75cl bottle - poured clear gold, beautiful gold with a big white head. Aroma of oranges, cloves, coriander, yeast. Delicate. Very fresh. Flavour is similarly refreshing and clean with lots of light fruit, including apples, pears, a little bit of banana, etc, along with the yeast and Belgian spices and candy sugar. Light and highly drinkable flavour with no trace of the high alcohol content.

Large, frothy white head above a slightly hazy body. The nose is spicy and malty with notes of coriander and a touch of clove, ginger, grain, cookie and honey. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet. Just a touch of bitterness. The finish is mostly sweet and slightlly dry. Medium body. Lively carbonation. Watery texture. Drinkable and enjoyable.

75 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a huge white head slowly collapsing. Orange peel and coriander spiced fresh aroma with a whiff of spices. Flavour is soft caramel sweet malty, mildly yeast spiced (very classic Belgian) and with a clear tone of coriander.

0,75cl fles. Gekocht op vakantie in de Ardennen. Het is hier ook goed verkrijgbaar, maar ach.... Lekker bier, Geen alcohol smaak. Lekker zacht. Een echt lekkere belg. Dit kan ik wel vaker drinken.

Draught tulip at Redbones on 10/11/07
Finally decided to sit down and rate this one. Well-formed white head tops a clear hay-golden body with light carbonation present. Retention and lacing are moderate.
I really don’t find all that much difference between this beer and the Dobbelem IPA Trippel (god that name is so stupid), other than, obviously, the different hop profile. But the spongey-sweet, slightly cakey malts are there, there’s plenty of citrus acidity from the yeast and lots of white pepper phenol and light bubble gum. Dry, grassy and straw-like hops help lift some of the sweetness from the palate, but they’re not particularly fresh or vibrant, just sort of there. Too much acidity and odd, nearly-astringent breadiness, that I get in all Chouffe beers, with the malt sweetness sneaking up on you as the beer progresses (caramel and vanilla, getting too sweet eventually). The aroma, anyways, is quite pleasant, with more of an herbal-perfumey note from the mix of yeast acidity, phenol and hop. Mouthfeel is smooth, fairly soft, though very carbonated at first. Alcohol is well-concealed, no brewing flaws. I don’t understand the draw to this brewery....
