kepano (239), Meudon, France Oct 16, 2005 Updated: Jan 28, 2006 Pours a lazy gold, like early sunrays on an autumnal Sunday morning. Strings of bubbles kiss the glass and rise to a dense foamy white cap leaving thick lumps of lace as the head slowly sinks. The nose seems masked at first but short bursts of fruits and spice appear. Banana, apple, caramel and yeast are present. The flavors divide into three distinct phases. As you take your first sip, a sweet nectar erupts on the tip of your tongue. Honeysuckle, banana and other sweet fruits make a very brief appearance before the brew takes on a different aspect. Over-roasted coffee beans with a metallic edge dominate the main section with a sharp bitterness that gradually matures to a satisfying bread-like finish. The evolution in this beer was a good complement to the goat cheese I had beforehand. Refreshing and easy to drink.

Wim (1121), Turnhout, Belgium Jun 28, 2009 cloudy gold blond coloured body with a white head a spicy herby hoppy fruity aroma a spicy herby little fruity sweet taste with a herby bitter finish nice one Vertical Bacon Strips (581), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 25, 2009 Ah! What a wonderful pour! Lovingly poured into my Affligem glass. Nice large bubbly head that losses most of its volume quickly but not all of it as the last 1/4 inch takes its sweet time. No real lacing as any that is produced is quite slippery. The beer itself is in between yellow and mild orange gold, slightly hazy and carries a decent amount of trapped particles. After awhile, my repours are starting to give me some sticky lacing.
Man, the aroma is incredibly fresh and attentive. Light and fruity (lots of citrus and tropical fruits - early on it’s pineapples, orange and I’m slowly noticing the banana more and more. Don’t forget the very mildly spiced yeast (still quite chilled at this point) and what I’d have to call hearty bread??? - sorry, I’m having a problem nailing down the malt in this one... maybe it’s cause I’m half in the bag already. Maybe it’s more of a biscuity scent. As this warms the mild banana comes out more but it never gets to the point where it is a strong aroma nor does it hide the other scents. On a semi refill, I’ve noted a stronger yeast content along with lemon which actually was the first thing that I noticed on the initial pour. Wow. What an excellent treat smelling this over and over is.
The taste is nothing over the top, no flavour bombs, but it’s just a nice, soft, enjoyable brew that is getting consumed quicker than it probably should. Great beer in hand and all I can think of is the giant bowl of popcorn that I’m going to have shortly. The light fruits (orange peel, weak banana and lemon) attempts to overtake the yeast but can’t. The flavour does take on a bit of a foamy and on occasion watery (blasphemy!!!). The yeast is superior here - dry, clove, etc and is backed by the fruit. There is a bit of mustiness here, not much (I’ve got leather stuck in my head as I hit up some leathery wines last night and they are still fresh in my mind, as well as a 1989 Chateau du la Gardine - a total treat that I’ve been holding on for many a year).
The mouth feel is heavily carbonated but never annoys. Another pour and the aroma is once again relived. Very foamy in the mouth. Where the hell is the 8%???? (aside from the obvious buzz). Mediumish bodied. Finishes dry, slightly tart and has a lingering spice that mellows with the malts... this seems to be the only time I can really notice them. I have really enjoyed this beer a lot and I will be getting more for casual consumption. I will note that as I type this sentence there is less than a quarter glass left. 750ml down. Needed it all to give this the review it truly deserves. What the hell - is this a novel? Prost. CaptBier (281), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jun 20, 2009 Bottle. An orange beer with a fantastic light orange head. The aroma is fantastic: it is maltsweet with notes of alcohol, fruit, oranges, corriander, and cinnamon - a wonderful nose. The flavor too is fantastic - it starts with a nice maltsweetness containing notes of oranges, fruit, corriander, cinnamon, and alcohol. In the end, the alcohol sting your tongue, before it leveaves you with a sweetness that lingers on your tongue and lips. It has a very nice palate. This is a great beer.
PJClarke (494), London, Surrey, England Jun 13, 2009 On tap at the Rake: Crazy lemony sweet on both the nose and tongue. It is a bit like squash overall. Some richness but no bite. All a bit childish for me. Virkelig en fantastisk øl, MrBunn (1316), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 8, 2009 On tap at Vintage Estate. Pours a hazy gold with funky grass and a little lemon in the nose. Flavor is pretty similar, but alcohol is surely there.
