COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Choulette Ambrée is the classic amber version of a French bières de gardes. It has a wonderfully spicy aroma and is fullflavored, but effervescent and refreshing.

Well, you help me decide how old this is - the "best before" label has three years printed on it; 95, 96, and 97! Could it be over 8 years old? No indication on the cork, which was difficult to remove and escaped with nearly no sound. In the nose it does indeed resemble other de Gardes I've had; far-off fruitiness mixed with a slightly sour hay, grape skin and white wininess. This would be good, but more along the 3 Monts line than the La Baviasienne. Too bad it's gone this far south.

Not very good. I can't decide what this beer tastes like. It is very confusing. Not very well-balanced.

Amber color. Almost stinks. Some malt taste. Worse than La Choulette Blonde.

Strong honey aroma dark amber, low creamy head. Woody and sweet honeyish tastenotes. medium bodied but with a heavy attitude. Sugary sweet, almost vineous aftertaste. Seems to be a bit out off balance to me.

Amber colour. Berries in the aroma. Sweet and dry flavour. Quite uninteresting, but drinkable.

(33cl Bottle) Thin, almond head that is quick dissipating with a cloudy, orange-amber body. Cocoa, malt and licorice nose. Flavours of thick, floral malt and strong anise spice. Finiahes with slight alcohol burn. Similar to Jenlain.

Big short lived head & chestnut colour. Some apple-like aroma. Very malty flavour with just enough alcohol warmth. Caramelly sweetness develops as it warms, which I actually liked. Quite complex and worthy of rating #300.

My review is tainted by a bad cork, which overwhelmed the aroma and flavor of this beer. I detected a nice spicy, peppery aspect, with a sweet, nice body, some earthiness, caramel malt and a bland finish. Amber color, rapidly diminished foamy, tan head. Probably a decent beer, but mine was in poor condition.

Amber body with rising carbonation, medium off-white head, sweet, malty, spicy and vinous nose. Rather vinous flavor with substantial peach fruity sweetness and spicy finish. Nicely balanced. Extra point for being from France, a country with conscience.

Faint hazy amber ruby with small bright yellow beige short lasting head. Strong caramel malty, milder musty cellar yeast and port winey vinous with hint of spice. vinergary toffee and tropical fruit aroma. Medium smooth, ’fly of the tongue’ body. Short mild bitter hoppy start. medium strong hearty and delicious sweet heading towards sticky caramel malty, vinous and yeasty/spicey middle. The alcohol comes through in the middle and finish together with a faint bitter finish. Most fortified vinous of the Bière de Garde"s I"ve ever tasted. Nice.
