COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Choulette Ambrée is the classic amber version of a French bières de gardes. It has a wonderfully spicy aroma and is fullflavored, but effervescent and refreshing.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2004 Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), moderately yeasty (mold, cobwebs), with notes of peach, grass, sour apple, hint of alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Sourish, and not entirely wholesome.

Bottle (Volo) Fine haze, amber light brown. Good solid fine tanned top, nice lacing. Pleasant nose, malty, gentle aromatic hops with hints of spice and yeast. Slightly earthy, woody in character with semi-sweet malt touch. Smooth and very easy to drink. Be aware this one is 8 %. Classic.

Bottle at Hall’s Beerr Tavern, Paris. Gentle carboanation in a hazy amber beer. Very fruity, plums, peqaches, sour cherries. Feel srelated to an Altbier. Well balanced, quite complex. A little hint of barnyard, a small edge of vinegar.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 Bottle (330ml) - tulip glass. Poured cloudy orange with a big creamy/rocky slightly off-white head, intricate thin lacing left behind. Aroma redolent of sour corn mash, hops, a bit of coriander, alcohol and sweet malt - a little earthy yeastiness in the back. Flat, greasy mouthfeel, tastes of corn starch, white wine, orange peels - some subtle hops and a sour, wheaty note overall. A little flatter than ideal, but well blended and balanced with enough going on to keep me searching for "what’s that taste???!"

Deep orange, gentle off-white head stays light, but offers light stickiness. Profound earthiness and fruited apricot/orange purée make up most of the nuances within my ability to catch. Focused orange flavours and peachy rather slim malts don’t appear as well integrated as they could be. I’m in fact a bit alarmed at how simplistic this seems. Certainly nothing noticeable from the hops while the yeast is barely a factor besides a soft estery nature. Airy palate from the very active carbonation that bites the tongue. A bit disappointing as the classic bière de garde from the makers of the awesome sans-culottes.

In short: A yeasty and toasted biscuity grainy malts affair. Good beer
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed when probably one year of age.
The look: Almost clear golden amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is toasted cookies and earthy yeast. Taste is very grainy toasted malts, graham cookies, earthy notes, some brown sugar, toasted cracked wheat bread, lots of yeast. Fluffy full body. This beer was all about toasted grainy malt, it is a bit sweet, but something about the interplay of the malts and the omnipresent yeast made it drinkable. I must say I didn’t expect much from this beer so it was a pleasant surprise. Just another of the many many many beers I drank just because I need to try them all. On the positive side, if tomorrow I’m diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor I certainly will not regret not drinking more beer while I was healthy.

Strong honey aroma dark amber, low creamy head. Woody and sweet honeyish tastenotes. medium bodied but with a heavy attitude. Sugary sweet, almost vineous aftertaste. Seems to be a bit out off balance to me.

19/II/2012 25cl bottle @ Le Lion Bossu (Lille) - BB:21/VI/13 (2012-147)

Clear reddish amber beer, small creamy head, adhesive with nice lacing, pretty stable. Aroma: very nutty, toast, bit of caramel, mocha and even coffee. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: dark chocolate, bit of mocha, dried fruits, some nuts, dark caramel. Aftertaste: mocha, some hop bitters, toast, little nutty and caramel. Pretty good stuff!
