Typical Biere de garde beer with dry flavor of weak fruits. Hazy light and not something special, but not that bad. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Bottle from the Dodgy Deli on Cowley Road. Light burnished gold, nice lingering cap of white. Both aroma and flavor are a mix of butter, dried apricot and light berries. While I’m not one to shrink away from a touch of diacetyl now and then, it’s fairly heavy here, making the sweetness feel kind of unpleasant. Still, it has a certain interest. Light palate, yet still somehow a little sticky. Hard to say on this--my bottle might not have been in the best shape.

For some reason, as it sat in my beer rack, I remembered buying a lambic. Some memory. This is a traditional biere de garde. Fruity. Light. Not bad at all. durhambeer (1245), Durham, USA

Funky hay, yeast, malt, grain on the nose. More of the same with added vegetable matter and menthol notes on the palate and a chalkiness in taste and mouthfeel that wasn’t very pleasant. I like funky beers, but this had some funk that didn’t seem to be intentional, and it certainly wasn’t expected from a Biere de Garde. Very different from, say, a Castelain Blond.
