CapFlu (3432), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Apr 6, 2005 (Bottle) Pours a huge, foamy, white head and a highly carbonated, mildly sediment-filled, amber body. Nose of english hops, old fruit and cheezy malt... and it may be a tad tinny as well. The flavour is very raisin-like and malty. A much better taste than aroma. I like it!
fonefan (8711), VestJylland, Denmark Mar 10, 2009 Bottle 75cl. Clear medium yellow color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, grain, toasted, light yeasty. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20081122] thebeertourist (2459), Oslo, Norway Jan 15, 2009 Bottle from Le Quincampe, Paris. Clear golden with persistent head. Intense fruity and earthy aroma and flavours with quite a bit of sweet toffee. Some dry yeasty notes. A kind biere de garde and different from he pack. ROGUE (461), Newark, Delaware, USA Jan 7, 2009 750 bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a very small head that quickly disappears. Has an earthy aroma. Some fruitiness lingers in the background.
Taste is similarly earthy with sour and funk. The flavor just does not sit very well with me. A lingering sweetness dominates the finish. Light body with low carbonation. Not a bad beer, just nothing impressive.
MiP (8075), Flensburg, Germany Dec 8, 2008 Bottle, 7.5%. Hazy golden colour. Very small white head. The flavour is quite sweet, some maltiness with a little cardboard. KyotoLefty (873), Kyoto, Japan Dec 7, 2008 Bottle in Paris, 2006.
Medium golden, very little head. Aroma of malt and yeast. Very malty, quite sweet flavor. Fruity. Some bitterness but not much. A touch strong. Something of that grassy, farmyard like taste that comes with other bieres de garde. Spicy. People talk about green apple. Is that what I taste? I don’t think so, but…
A slightly bitter finish. Interesting. I can’t really tell what these flavors are, but they are quite original. It is a touch too sweet for me, but good.
Bragesnak (1954), Aarhus, Denmark Sep 20, 2008 Tasting at DØ meeting, Aarhus Syd, DK.
Bottled, 170809.
Golden with nice head. Aroma of malt, fruit and alcohol. Flavor ditto. Dedollewaitor (2961), Odense, Denmark Aug 2, 2008 33cl bottle. Pours clear golden with a fine white head & lacings. Nose & taste is: Dusty, fruity, yeasty, barnyard- quite disappointing. Smooth, soft & sticky palate. Overall too sweet & too many off flavors. Homer321 (126), Rockledge, Florida, USA Jul 15, 2008 bottle dated 12-10-06. aroma has "that belgain funk" like it might be tart. app is hazy dark yellow. hardly any carbonation, maybe it all leaked out? Ha. taste is like WTF? not what I was expecting from the nose. smooth, slight taste from raw sugars in brewing. palate is ok, kinda neutral. I’m glad I didn’t pay too much for this beer. while it’s ok for the price, it left me wanting more complexity. I’d buy it again, but I can see why the store wanted to get rid of it to get better beers in. Maybe it was past it’s prime, not really sure.
