COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Clear and copperish with a fizzy head. Nose was filled with dirty feet, must and earth. Light, very effervescent and champagne-like mouthfeel. Sweet caramel malts ... a little too sweet, actually. Had a nice little funk to it, with a sour finish. Only a mild bitterness to boot.

Cherry hued straw beneath a thin, off-white. Tons of light malt with a bit of subtle spice. Oranges, toffee, cinnamon, lemon zest, white pepper and some oily nuts. Light, crisp and refreshing body with a clean finish. The flavor is pleasant and not overbearing, as I feared this holiday beer might do. The subtleness is key to a nice Biere de Garde and I'm glad this didn't disappointed. Well done.

750 ml bottle [corked and caged]: Deep garnet with a fluffy white head. Wonderful green apples and ripe pears sing out of the glass. Airy malt and tasty yeast. Buttery rum flavours along with luscious fruit, light herbal spices and more yeast. Not as “winey” as some other Bière de Gardes I have had, which I really like. This is a full flavoured: cocoa, figs, raisins, honey, simply elegant.

Apple cider smell noted. The beer tasted like the small of evergreen trees. Very carbonated beer.

Malty aroma - chocolate and biscuit - with dried fruits. Flavor has an even balance. Dry, slightly astringent (grapeskins) finish, mild warming.

Pours a deep orange/ruby/amber. Light tannish head. Sweet, malty, spice nose. Sweet, plummy, spice, vanilla, dusty, light caramel, ripe fruit, chocolate, cinnamon, yeast, bretty, funky, bitter, herbal finish. Medium bodied, very well rounded, not overly spiced, very drinkable. I wish this was available all year.

I was expecting something spiced, but was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't. Deep brown color, nice loose tan head. (Frothy). Flavor is intense and woody. Somewhat sweet on the tail end, but not sickening.

Dark amber colored. Head is initially very large, but doesn't last very long (except for a thin layer). Aroma is dominated by alcohol with notes of ripened fruit and malt. Mildly sweet malty flavor is delicate and a tad caramelized. Finish is astrigent, medicinal and a touch sour. A nice beer for a Christmas Eve night.

I was very impressed with this one. Deep orange color with a lasting tan head. Cinimon and spice aroma that is not overwhelming and at perfect levels for a beer. Full bodied beer with gentle spice notes throughout the carmel malt flavor. Nice balance and very drinkable. Worth a second bottle.
