COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

750 ml bottle pored a clear brown with a lasting amber head. Aromas of roasted malt, carmel and a hint of spices. Palate was medium bodied. Flavors of carmel, toffee, a bit of roastiness and some earthiness with a smooth lingering finish.

Bottled. A dark amber coloured beer with a whitish head and lacing. The aroma is thick and gluey. Some brown bread and heavy malts. A really really chewy mouthfeel. Malty and bready. Quite sweet. Not sure why this is called a Christmas beer. Overridingly chewy.

Tasted from a 750 mL bottle purchased in Denver, Colorado. Red orange appearance with lots dispersed sediment. A bit fruity medium body aroma. Bread-like flavor thats seems to be drawing a lot of flavor from the sediment. A bit of fruitiness that’s somewhat like sour oranges. Interesting but not my favorite.

I would readily have again. Excellent with dinner. Palish biere de garde colour, heavenly spicy scent. Easy mouthfeel, understated carbonation and it;s in its prime, nine months before expirey. Slightly candy sweet that works nicely with the spices. Sour notes

Frothy fruitiness of pomegranates and strawberries strive for candyish levels of sweetness and sometimes succeed...Smoky malt fumes languidly hover over rummy spiciness...Blatant proof that French Noël beers are of very distinct constitution than that of their northern neighbours, but can still offer interesting sweet quaffers...

bottle, many thanks to jaghana. Clear amber colour, mid-sized off-white head. Shy aroma of malt with fruity accents. Quite dry and hoppy, thoiugh not too bitter. Shy malty background, slightly grainy. The hop character is dusty with herbal accents. Good.

Bottle from Super Saver. Hazy ruby coppery pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, fruit, spice, hopcitrus. The taste was caramel malty, spicy, with some nutmeg, brown sugar, maple syrup, and slight hops. Medium palate with a lot of complexity.

Bottle @ Cole’s Christmas Tasting 2007. Copper body with a fast fading white head. Sweet aroma, light yeast and very light notes of fruit and spice. Similar flavour, light overall profile, mild fruit and spices echo the aroma. (6+) Average palate. Not unpleasant but fails to inspire.

Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a thick frothy off-white head. Mildly earthy sweet caramel Belgian malty aroma speckled with cinnamon and cardamom and a touch of dry smoke. Starts sweet and malty with nice complexity and decent body. Very smooth and drinkable, leading up to a semi-dry earthy toffee finish. A nice and enjoyable Biere de Garde, but not quite as intense as La Bavaisienne.
