COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bičre de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bičre de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a thick frothy off-white head. Mildly earthy sweet caramel Belgian malty aroma speckled with cinnamon and cardamom and a touch of dry smoke. Starts sweet and malty with nice complexity and decent body. Very smooth and drinkable, leading up to a semi-dry earthy toffee finish. A nice and enjoyable Biere de Garde, but not quite as intense as La Bavaisienne.

Bottle. Off white head. Dark red brown body. Very spicy aroma with hints of vanilla. Caramel, raisin smooth flavor, low carbonated. Definately a surprise.

Bottle. Caramel colored beer with a light tan head. Caramel and light yeast aroma. Caramel and light yeast/light spice flavor with light candied fruit. Medium bodied. Caramel and light candied fruit lingers with light spice and light yeast.

Bottle, shared at game night. Medium amber with a lively off white head, floculent colloidal yeast at the end of the pour. Fairly simple profile of caramel and marzipan flavours, light sweet spiciness.

Bottled. Amber with a short-lived head; aroma of red berry, wet metal railings and dried pear; quite frothy, some pleasant orchard fruit but then a tinny tang with a hint of the wrong kind of funk. Could have used a more refined use of Christmas spices

Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours amber with a thick off-white head and a toffee aroma. There is a carbonated caramel malt flavor with candi sugar and spice. Good but not exceptional.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium off white head. The aroma is highly malty and caramelish with some tobacco and bready notes. The flavour is sweet caramel malt and some toast. Nice malty brew.

Bottle pours brownish caramel, large frothy off-white head, fairly sticky lacing, with light carbonation.   Hay like aroma, and what could best be described as pellet food.   Seems very organic, somewhat earthy and dried herbish like.   Herbal sweetness up front, slightly dry, followed immediately by a quickly fading soft sourness.   Enjoyable body, medium mouthfeel.   Finishes musty, malty, slightly sweet, with a soft sourness in the background.   Not a big fan of the style, but this was rather enjoyable.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of apple/pear, peach, vinegar, and alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.

750, corked and caged. Pours a cloudy burnished medium amber with a dense, creamy, slightly sudsy tan head. Caramelly, slightly toffeeish nose with very rich notes of real butter cream. Not diacetyl butter--butter cream. Smells like some sort of insanely decadent pecan pastry. Not cloying, though, and, unfortunately, not quite dimensional enough to qualify as an exceptionally aromatic nose. Creamy medium body, very subdued carb. Caramel, cream, pecans, and a bit of toffee on the mid-palate, mild pastryish finish. Tasty, very holidayish, and something I would gladly serve to family and friends around a big ol’ turkey and ham. But not one that will haunt my dreams with memories of biere de garde pleasures.
