3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2012
First had this beer in De Bierboom, one of my favourite bars in Brugge. The correct glass is a wonderful horn shape and comes in a wooden holder, very impressive. This 33cl bottle however was poured into a Duvel glass in May 2011.
A small amount of sediment left the bottle, so my pale golden beer had a very slight haze to it, on top a pure white foaming head sat majestically.
Citrus aroma, the sour type, lemons and grapefruits.
The taste is also dominated by those aforementioned citrus fruits, giving the beer a tart, refreshing, tangy feel and flavour.
The beer had a best before date of 8-2013 and was in good condition, being well carbonated and spritzy, the head producing some heavy lacing as the beer level sank down the glass.
A little too sour and citrusy for my tatses, but it is a pleasant enough beer and I remember enjoying it more out of it’s own horn than I did during this review.
