muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 17, 2007 500 ml naturally-corked bottle from Marché des Saveurs in Montreal, QC (August 2006) served out of the fridge in a White Winter Winery glass. Why the heck is this one in a bigger bottle? Spoils the symmetry with the other two beautifully-labelled specimens. Oh well. Anyway, it pours a clear, slightly oily salmon-pink with fine legs.....very dry, musty nose is more reminiscent of old decaying paper than anything else, little in the way of evident fruit at first though dessicated blueberries and raspberries eventually appear....body is quite dry, lightly medicinal, but not as dry as the other two meads from this producer, as there is a bit of fruity sweetness and notable acidity, the berries contrast nicely with the woody/herbal notes that otherwise dominate the mouthfeel....fascinating and intriguing more than invigorating or enervating, this like the other two meads from St Paul de la croix is probably beyond my simple palate at the moment, but is certainly a notable, and noble attempt at expanding the hydromel horizons. tiggmtl (4157), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 12, 2007 Very light blueberry note discernible in the lightly musty and sweet nose. Clear golden body is quite still, pale and winelike. No legs on the glass. Honey flavour is very apparent along with light notes of flowers and berries. Alcohol is barely suggested although there is some warming. Light, dry body. Cider glass. Fridge temperature. Bottle (Marché des Saveurs, Aug-06).
