3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RichardGretton (3759) - - MAR 28, 2006
Bottle. Golden beer with a strong head. The aroma is fruity and mainly sweet, and the flavour is very rich, quite mulled and spiced with a large amount amount of bitterness. Overall a good attempt at a Belgian style blond beer.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 zacgillbanks (211) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2012
Bottle from Mam and Dad’s holiday in France. A dark golden beer with a lemon, clove and slight soapy flavour and a whisky and sweet fruity finish. It doesn’t taste anywhere near as strong as its ABV suggests.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012
March 2009: Dumpy brown bottle, containing 33cl of 8.5% strength beer. Plenty of life left when opened. Poured into a Westmalle Chalice, everything looks good in one of those.
Good looking beer, deep old gold, clear and almost bright. The foaming white head didn’t stay long enough for me, but it tried to hang around for a while.
Yeast, hops and malts hit the nose. I had been reviewing lagers before I opened this, what a joy to actually smell something at last.
The alcohol hits hard in this (or is it because of the lager tastings?), I had trouble getting past the initial thump of it. Smaller sips allowed the true flavours to come through. A mix of hops, malts, cereals and yeast combine very sweetly to give this beer a pleasant feel, with a warming sensation from the alcohol adding to its charms, once I got over the first gulp.
Easy to drink, in fact far too easy, this would be a headache inducing special given the chance.
Once again a fine beer from France, I really must try and get some more when the chance arises.

This has the sweetness I’ve come to notice in a lot of Belgian-style ales. The sweetness comes across in both smell and taste. Great head on this one.
1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 JEK69 (137) - FRANCE - APR 13, 2012
Pours amber gold with a thin foam head.
Smells very bad: reductive and vegetable.
Mouth is a sole block of malty cabbage: not a great beer!

Bottled, 330ml from LeClerc, Vouziers, France. Cloudy orange gold with white head. Initial fruity sweetness, apricot notes to the fore, with a background of sweetish caramel, toffee. It becomes a little over the top, so it was fortunate that I had the smaller bottle. There is a spicy note later on but it’s quite vague. It’s fine but just a little sweet for me.

Paid $7.99 for a 750ml bottle. Poured into a snifter. Nearly clear gold color. Soft carbonation with 1/2 white head. Spotty lace down the snifter. Nose of wheat/ yeast, pale malts and light spice. The flavor is sweet, fruity, spicy, the ABV is slightly noticeable toward the back end, mildly bitter and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is tingly and lively. Not bad in anyway however….. a bit boring. Real forgettable for me.

Yeasty medium bitter fruity malty aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft light tingly mouthfeel, good medium body and a light creamy texture.
Well balanced and pretty tasty.

Pours a nice orange colour with a tall frothy white headwhich gives great lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, spices and yeast. Taste is also sweet malt, some caramel, yeast and spices leading to a dry, lightly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky. Not too bad.
