sample at mondial de la bière 2015 - mtl. hazy/cloudy golden orange pour with a small beige cap, some retention and lacing. piney and coniferous-plenty, fresh pepper, peppery and danky meaty mangoes, umami - celery salt, baley sugars, caramel. light carbonation, medium body - oily, assertive and astringent grassy-spicy-piney finish. questionable balance, plus a meaty awkward presence. nah.

Classique, "by the book" même, mais succulente.

(Mondial 2015) Pours a light copper and moderately hazy. Head is moderately high and covers the glass with nice patterns. Nose is of pine, caramel and fruits. Taste is lightly sweet and toasted and flavored with fruits, powdery caramel. Moderately bitter. Body is medium, carbonation too and mouthfeel is a little sticky. Overall this isn’t a "flashy" american IPA but still well-made enough and interesting.

Sample on tap at Mondial. Almost clear light amber pour with thin creamy white head. Aroma is nice and hoppy, citrusy hop aromas, light pine. Taste is nice and bitter, light malty character, light caramel but not overpowering, good citrusy flavor. Nice IPA.

Drank on tap at the 22th Mondial de la Bière on June 12, 2015. Deep amber, small head. Quintessential bittersweet hoppy aroma, nice citrus and pine mix. The taste is about the same but a bit bitter, light grapefruit aftertaste. A solid IPA like all their other beers, from a brewpub that because of it’s location, could have just make passable brew!

Bien!

A hazed amber ipa with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, nice fruity biscuit malt with loads of resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice and smooth. In mouth, good biscuit malt with herbaceous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice and smooth. On tap at Mondial 2015.

On tap at brewpub. A cloudy amber with a nice white head. Aroma is lemon, caramel. Flavor is caramel, fruits, cereals. Finish is loads of lemon, orange, grapefruit. Medium body, average carbonation. Pretty solid.

My Bottom Line:
Polished citrus fruit hint at lemongrass spiciness in this lean and juicy IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the misty pale amber.
-The soft carbonation and svelte mouthfeel make for supreme drinkability.
-Malts are a little toasty underneath.
-Bitterness is a bit resinous and mostly not oppressive.

On tap at the brewpub.

In short: A nourishing, sweet, bitter and fruity IPA of superior quality.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Clear shining golden body topped by a persistent small
In long: The moderately aromatic nose is mostly hoppy and proposes all kind of fruits (tropical and others). Medium body with a medium carbonation, typical clean mouthfeel I expect from a medium size thirst beer. In mouth the beer gains in intensity. Starts with semi-sweet honeyed and caramelized cereals. Then a truckload of hops, tropical fruits, exotic fruits, grass juice. A commanding bitterness. Hops resin in the comeback. Overall sensation of hops essence. Listed as a Citra IPA at the pub but somehow I didn’t find it to be typical Citra IPA compared to the slew of Citra IPAs I’ve been drinking in the past few years. A superior IPA nonetheless, my new favorite beer brewed in the beer wasteland that is Eastern Quebec. La Fabrique is truly a nice brewpub but I would hate to live in a small town like Matane because there’s nothing to do in small towns, whenever I’m in Matane I can’t wait to come back to Montreal to spend every night on my couch watching tv and drinking beer.
