Dark reddish brown, clear, living beer with a fine and generous white head. Typical, rich, estery smell (fermentation), scent of coriander, balanced. Special malts, full mouthed, balanced, slightly bitter aftertaste.

750 ml bottle. BB 21/02/16. From Terry! Cheers!
As a drink in our kinkunvalvojaiset (it’s needlessly to translate... it won’t translate well)... Very nice clear ruby red colour with a huge foamy tan head. Dark dried fruits, some sweet malt, mild metal and some sugary sweetness in the aroma. Not bad. The flavour is really nice surprise... dried fruits, dried berries, sweetness, brown sugar, malt and some candies. Not bad at all. No alcohol around. Well this ain’t exactly the first beer of the evening but still no signs of alcohol. Balanced and tasty.

75cl bottle shared in a Kasteel glass. Pours a dark garnet to brown colour with an impressive creamy, off-white head which lasts well. Aroma is typical Belgian brune with very nice malty notes and estery dark fruits. Taste is toffee, prunes, dates and the faintest richness of coffee giving way to a slight bitterness in the finish. Slightly thinner mouthfeel than expected but overall an excellent example of the style.

Bottle (330 ml). Hazy dark amber / reddish brown with a medium diminishing beige head and little lacing. Aroma is quite spicy (coriander and cinnamon-like) with some fruitiness and caramel. Light smoke too. Taste is quite spicy too... not that much, but enough to be cloying for me. Caramel notes, light smoked malts and light bitterness. Some unpleasant sweetness too. Medium body. Fizzy carbonation. Watery finish. This is exactly the kind of Dubbel that I don’t like. Complete lack of body and they try to compensate with spices... it could be brewed by Brasseurs du Monde and I wouldn’t be surprise.

’Massive ale’ since 1994, like its blonde counterpart (the amber and Christmas versions were added later); a dark brown bear with stable, off-white head and yeasty and malty character, some candied fruits, caramel, unfortunately DMS as well, malty taste, sweetish with yeasty notes and warming alcohol in the finish. The quality seems to vary, time to re-rate this.

From a 330ml bottle on 17/8/2014. Pours a clearish brown with a smallish head which disappears quickly. Has a pleasant malty nose with caramel, toffee and rye bread. The flavour follows suit with more caramel, toffee and rye bread, along with a dash of dark fruit and yeast. Finishes with a modest bitterness. The body is quite full and the carbonation average to lively. Not overly complex but still a very solid brune.

Reddish brown clear beer with blonde head. Aroma has toffeeish sweetness, malts, anise and yeast. Flavor is malty sweet and licoricy with some anise. Quite full palate with quite strong carbonation. Finish is malty sweet with feel of alcohol. Quite basic dark Belgian beer.
