3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 softale (188) - Michigan, USA - OCT 10, 2002
Golden with a bits of tiny flakes suspended throughout. Aroma is fruity (banana and citrus) and just a little spicy. Tastes a little sweet and has a nice warming effect due to the 9.5% ABV no doubt. I liked it overall, but I didn’t lose my head over it.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 krisbierjaeger (844) - dolores, Colorado, USA - OCT 6, 2002
a very humane way to go. this guillotine is like a slab of glittering fort knox gold, lemony polished gold; very light haze. head was as pure as a priest’s collar, and just as thin and stiff. nose is warm, slightly congealing hard candies: fruit drops and candy canes and toffee. flavor is like peach schnapps over pumpkin orange cake. verrrrrry sweet, with animated jazzy carbonation, pound cake and gooey apricot compote. i would have enjoyed a more conspicuous alcohol effect. there is a tinkle of hop bitterness, like distant windchimes on a cool autumn night; they barely curb the runaway sweetness. if you think of it as a dessert wine, a sauterne, then i think you’ll enjoy it with a choice honduran corona.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jerohen (1863) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - SEP 29, 2002
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2006 A bit similar to the Delirium Tremens, but imho superior. Like the name suggests the alcohol is quite overwhelming. Good belgian strong ale.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 pivo (2540) - GERMANY - SEP 19, 2002
Real doughy nose with hints of yeast. Hazy orange-gold color. Quick diminishing head. Fruity, melon-like; spicey, nutmeg; slight bitter end. Thin-ish with a round mouth feel. Good balance but not overwhelmingly good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 YogiBeera (2435) - Hamburg, GERMANY - SEP 18, 2002
Aroma like oranges, malt, raisons, yeasty almost like dough. Nice orange golden body with a little head. Very spicey with hints of raisons, vanilla and also yeast. Smooth but very thin, nearly no aftertaste.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Kåstå (1274) - Mol, BELGIUM - SEP 10, 2002
Blond with a big head. Flowery, fruity aroma and taste. Slightly dry.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - SEP 8, 2002
Light amber colour with a nice head. Aroma was nice and fruity, but there was an overwhelming (for me) banana flavour that didn’t do it for me.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 diabel (1584) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - SEP 7, 2002
Nice nale, but according to me no special taste, drinks like a pilsener.
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Linc (736) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - SEP 6, 2002
Fantastic amount of body, huge rocky head atop a slightly cloudy pale amber. But, like most Huyghe products has a disagreeable sour aroma and flavour with a clinging acidic finish. Not totally unpleasant, but the flavour just isn’t me.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 caesar (3938) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - AUG 31, 2002
Rerate Still a good triple, but the appearance isn’t that good. Still, it’s perfectly capable of masking it’s ABV, which is IMO very good. Spicy taste, delicious!
Original rate This is one of the best tripels i’ve ever had. Perfect head, smooth spicy taste. A pleasure to the tongue in my opinion!
