3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the 10th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival: Pours a clear deep golden bronze with a well-lacing frothy white head. Slightly floral lavender hoppy nose has a subtle pale caramel malty presence. Body starts fairly full and sweet, thinning some toward a bittersweet grapefruity finish. A decent IIPA.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at the brew house. Pours a mostly clear deep golden color with a small bubbly off white head, light lacing. Served in a lame pilsner glass. Nose held tons of sweet malts with pine and resin in there as well. Flavor was also very sweet with tons of pine cone, and a bit boozy, decent overall, remindes me of a lame exponential hoppiness

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Draft: La Jolla Brewhouse in La Jolla, CA) The owner says this is a completely different recipe from their Anniversary IPA from last year. It may be the best tasting beer I’ve had at this place yet. It’s not rivaling the best IPAs or Imperial IPAs I’ve had, but this beer is at least decent. The toasty malts provide a solid base, and the the moderately bitter, grapefruity, slightly piney hops establishes a nice balance here. The disappointing nose is malty and tea-like, but not too much citrus or classic hop aroma going on here for an Imperial IPA. Medium-bodied with good carbonation (sometimes the beers here are significantly over-carbonated). Dark ruddy-amber color with some haze, but not enough to hide the steady rise of carbonation bubbles. Small, off-white head settles to a wide ring, leaving patchy lace on the glass. Needs better aromatics, but not a bad effort.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap @ O’Brien’s. Pours an amber color with hints of ruby. Aroma is a little citric and bitter. Light creamy hop character with not alot of punch. Not even hoppy by IPA standards. Alcohol is very well hidden and it is easy to drink though.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Liar’s Club. Has quite a nice appearance, medium golden color with a thick, fine head that laces the glass forever. The aroma wasn’t bad, but just wasn’t there; kind of undetectable for me when compared to some other DIPAs. Flavor is kind of weak for a DIPA, but there are noticeable hints of pine sap, fresh cut hay, mixed with spices, fresh light malts and a good hops punch at the end. Could have been more balanced, the syrupy caramel and malt flavor at the beginning needs to be put in check by the hops. Still worth a try though. Finishes crisp and clean.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draft at O’Briens. Pours an orangey amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma is not real strong, but mainly toasty, piney and citrusy. Flavor is a little harsh, some toasty malts, with lots of acidity, citrus and herbal hops, alcohol is noticible and flavor lacks the rich maltiness that I like in a DIPA. This one is fairly dry and unbalanced for the most part. Medium body and prickly carbonation.
