DarkElf (2453), La Jolla, California, USA Jun 24, 2006 (Draft: La Jolla Brewhouse in La Jolla, CA) The Beast pours from the tap with only a sprinkling of small bubbles and by the time it got to me, there was nothing at all to the head. Fairly clear, dark ruddy amber, just a hint of haze, but one of the clearest Belgian Dubbels I’ve run across. The flavor consists of caramel, brown sugar, some banana, a hint of spices, and the standard Belgian yeast and candi sugar. It’s fairly sweet, but also a little bitter in the finish though. Caramely malts and Belgian yeast in the nose. Medium-full bodied with average carbonation, but what it presents in body, it lacks smoothness. I ordered this beer on successive days, but the second day was only because there was nothing better on tap. Hopefully they’ll have something more enjoyable the next time I spend my lunch hour here. trokini (818), San Diego, California, USA Sep 27, 2005 Pour is dark copper with a light cream-colored head. Aroma is spiced fruits and yeast. Taste is very smooth. Toffee and malt are big, with a back of the advertised nutmeg and spice. Neat little beer.
