COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Massive bang from the cork exploding out of the bottle with tons of beer smoke pouring down the bottle. Brew appears to be hazy copper with a massive white cap floating on top. I find myself having to suck the foam off the bottle as it is constantly rebuilding its self and rolling down the side. Aroma is yeasty sour spice with a wheaty toast base. Taste is very similar but more full and thicker. Toasted wheat, pancake batter, spice, Belgium yeast, the longer I let this sit the more massive of a lemon presence shows up. YUM YUM spice. So very smooth. Good brew I’m glad I tried it.

Bottle: Big long snake ish foamy gusher, slow but continueing. Big fluffy (off) white head, disappears slow, on top of a hazy orange colored beer. Smell fruit, apple, yeast, orange, alcohol, spices, grains, light sour, fruity and grains. Taste is nice fruity, light yeasty, crisp, nice bitter, some malts, apple, grains, corn, light sweet, slight hint of alcohol. Fruity light yeasty malty bitter aftertaste Low medium carbo, soft (tingly) mouthfeel, medium body and light watery texture.

had this from bottle and poured into a bordeaux stem. Nice and frothy head with a more dark orange color to it. looked a bit like an aged sauternes very funky base along with complex aromas of blood oranges, asian spices, citrus tones and a bit of mushrooms medium bodied with a lot of polish. Good feel with a good dose of funk and blood oranges This was a real interesting beer. I bought it mostly because of the crust on the bottle. I didn’t get the age on it, but it was real good and had some age to it

Cloudy orange, big fluffy white head. Very yeasty aroma - pineapple, banana. You know, the usual suspects. Flavor is quite a bit drier and hoppier than the aroma suggests. I got lemon and yeasty sweetness, the a dry, woody finish. Some alcohol, as well. Oddly bitter for a saison, but I liked it.

Bottle at Craft Beer Co tasting, originally from Utobeer. Bottle age >5 years. It pours golden, with a decent white head. The nose is sweet honey, pear, red apple, sour green apple and farmyard. The taste is hay, straw, farmyard, pear, red apple, tangerine, orange and light spice, with a dry citric fruit finish. Medium body and lively carbonation. Delicate and tasty.

The duck fat fries I had with this were better than the beer. I cant smell anything. The fries were great though. This is nicely seasoned but I don’t know how much I like the saeson beers. I like the stouts and ipas and porters and lagers more I think.

Got on draught at alewife. Pours a golden color with an off white head. Smells slighty fruity with some pepper. Nice smooth finish with a little fruity kick.

Bottle at 1st CBC Sunday Tasting. Thanks to Paul. At least five years old, likely more. Pours slightly hazy amber with a ghostly, white head. Bit of honey and aged malts on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, honey, toast, light fruits, toasted sugars. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Slight dry finish, toasted sugars, bready malts. Very good stuff.
