COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Pailhead (3326) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - DEC 27, 2006
Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. The aroma is very floral with moderate lemon tartness and light yeastiness. It pours a bright transparent golden-orange with a large white head with decent retention and lacing. The flavor is very fruity and yeasty up front with hints of lemon in the background. The finish has some quick acidity with moderate flowery bitterness.

Small coarse white head. Light copper body with carbonation. Complex sweetish aroma of tropical fruit, champagne, and cake. Bitter champagne flavour. Initially there is extreme carbonation in the mouth, which makes it hard to analyze it in any detail, but gradually this settles down. Metal, grain, marzipan, and fruit. Quite a bit of alcohol heat. A bit thin-bodied and harsh for me. (0.375l bottle. Quite old, with yeast particles in the bottle; should probably re-rate at some point. Only rating beer from the top part of the bottle. Had a real struggle opening the wire cage; in the end the wire just broke. They could market this as a negative-calorie beer.)

Bottle... Hazy amber ale with a huge, frothy, white head. Terrific retention. The nose is breadsy and spicy with notes of citrus fruit, grain, unknown herbs, white pepper and orange peel. The well-balanced flavor is both herbal, and tangy. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes mildly acidic, lightly bitter and, in the end, dry.

Bottle at Fourquet (the brewery tap), dark cloudy amber with a large pillowy white head. Pip fruity in the hoppy aroma. A full mouthfeel, the initial maltiness leading to a bitter dry finish.

750ml bottle: Pours a cloudy reddish orange with a thick large-bubbled white head, huge aroma with musty oranges and bready earth, starts lighty bitter and ends more bittter, medium bodied with a bit too much carbonation. Nice dry ending and an excellent saison.
