COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

As a saison, I found the color unique for the style (based on my experience). Amber (darker amber) with a slight haze. Thinner, off-white head. Rich, malty caramel nose. This tastes a bit old/oxidized but there is clearly a Brett character. Dry, not so malty flavor as the nose hinted at. Flavors are not so crisp but the sharp hop bite coupled with the Brett confirms the saison style. Palate was a bit underwhelming. On tap at Blind Tiger.

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Yeasty spicy aroma, with light floral hoppy notes. The flavor has a grainy base, with light yeasty notes and spicy and floral notes. Pretty good.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. Gusher alert! As soon as the top was popped, this brew came shooting out of the bottle. By the time it was done there was only about a quarter of the bottle left and one hell of a mess to clean up. Onward and upward. What was left poured a yellowish orange with a small, white head. The nose leans towards the grainy side with notes of citrus, yeast, and banana. The flavor is malty with a bit of yeast, pepper, lemon, banana, and straw. Light to medium bodied with lesser carbonation (guess it all shot out early) leading to a medium finish. Good and slightly different than the rest of the pack.

On draft at TND. Pours a slightly hazy orange vistalite honey color with a medium sized white head. Aroma of candied sugar, Belgian yeast, sweet malts and ripe fruit. Taste is much the same as the aroma.

750ml corked and caged green bottle. Another one form Shelton Brothers. No dates anywhere. Pours into my tulip a clear copper/peach/orange with a large soapy white head that doesn’t dissipate too quickly leaving very nice lacing. The aroma is highly fruity. It has almost a tannic smell and some subtle sourness as well. There is a subtle hit of caramel and then a hit of alcohol. The flavor is intruiguing and nice. It was almost like they took a malty tripel and blended it with a tart, slightly funky siason. It has a deep carmally malt base but with a nice fruity twang. There isn’t much sourness here, just a slight little zing. There are also motes of mineral water, a slight alcoholic bite, and a nice yeastiness. There are hints of pear peel and oxidized fruit as well. It is very complex. The mouthfeel is a bit over-carbonated but it doesn’t detract too much from the beer. Though the alcohol is apparent, it isn’t overbearing. This is a really good saison that needs to be tried. This is quickly becoming my second favorite style. hazy amber, white ring for a head. Dominant bubbleum and tea, minor banana. Flavor is dryer, more lemon, tea, and dusty banana with light grain and a bit of chocolate-cardboard oxidation in finish.
