COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Draught from the tiger. Poured an orangey color. Floral aroma. Earthy yeasty taste. Pretty well done.

750ml corked green bottle. Bottle appears to have been laid down on its side for some time as there is a large steak of yeast running down one side of the bottle. Dark orange colour with some haze. Good sized column of off white foam with large bubbles. Trace of feathery lace. Lemony aroma, some background funk, spicy. Flavour has quick hits of leathery funk at the start, orangey/citrus peel middle, yeasty-spicy end. Dry. Well carbonated, medium bodied. Well done, refreshing and quite drinkable.

Had this at a Saison tasting at Brian the Beer Pimp’s Love Shack! with that Chicken Lovin’ Celticbrew, the World Famous Drbayern, and Everyone’s Favorite Uncle Steve! Pours an amber color, somewhat cloudy. Gave a nice off white head. The beer had a really good maltty flavor and was veryeasy to drink! It’s a Very Good Beer!

Tap at Blue Dog. Pours a hazy deeper orange with a large foamy white head that laced. Aroma was a little musty/earthy, citrus notes, spicy and fruity saison yeast character. Flavor was very similar to aroma. Had a nice dry crispness to it. Excellent saison.

750 ml bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar ($9.49). Wow, the cork blew right out once I removed the cage. Pours a dark amber with giant frothy white head and good retention. Aroma of musty yeast, crusty bready malts, light fruit. Flavor has quite a bit of fruitiness (peach, apricot, citrus), toast, light caramel. Light mouthfeel with a slighty hoppy finish. Good enough drinking, but not a stand-out in the style. (297, 366)

Thanks to Steve Biracree for bringing this to the 1000 Islands to share. A somewhat orange pour with a thick white head that stayed around awhile. Slightly sour orange and grapfruit aroma. Taste is light and sour with hints of grapefruit. Nice clean dry finish.

750ml bottle from 16th St. Liquor in West Vancouver. Deep gold and orange in colour, very nice head lasts well. Aroma of yeast, apricot, and some breadiness, hint of sour as well. Initial bread flavour gives way to a slightly sour tinged fruitiness, mostly tangerine, and then goes into a drying, herbal finish. Alcohol is well worked in. A tasty saison and refreshingly different.
