COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers' family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Bottle. Peach malt aroma. Hazy amber color with moderate head. Sweet peach/orange flavor with light malt. Medium body. Nice taste but a bit light.

Bottle [750ml] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, jerc, mabel & GregClow -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a murky golden-orange with lots of sediment and a small frothy white head. Aroma: Hmmm, doesn’t really smell like a Saison and it smells old and papery -- Belgian yeast, fruit, some sugary sweetness, light spices and a bit of sourness. Flavour of alcohol and spices along with yeast and fruit -- it’s quite sharp, it burns a little. Average bodied. I didn’t much care for this.

Sampled on tap at Max’s Belgian Fest. Pours a translucent, purple, amber with a creamy white head. Nose is sugary, sweet, malty, yeast, sticky fruits. Flavor is the same with some vinous fruits, candy sugar. Medium bodied. Very nice.

Poured somewhere between gold and orange. Slightly cloudy with a nice white head and minimal lacing. The aroma was light citrus and yeast with some spice thrown in. The flavor was citrus and yeast with some of the "enticing mustiness" they note on the description. Thin to medium in body. Not bad, just didn’t ever really go anywhere.

Bottle ( 750ml ). Shared with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. Hazy orange, average frothy off-white head. Papery aroma, dry, floral, fruity (tart apple), not much alcohol. Tastes the same - a little boozy, flat, dry and stale - a little burny in the finish. Meh - perhaps a bit past it.

Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Rusty orange, cloudy body with rusty paprika floaties. Aroma: Well worn aftershave, like yer dad at the end of the day when he comes home from work, a little leather, good deal of yeast, may be a little old as it’s a bit musty. Flavour: Quite alcoholic at first, eases off then turns to malt, yeast, some tangy orange and a long musty finish. Weird.

Deep copper color with an enormous white head that melts gradually and leaves wonderful lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel and licorice. Flavor has good malts, caramel, butterscotch, dried fruits, and a dry, grassy finish. Complex and interesting, classic example of the style.

750. Pours a slightly unclear orange with a big foamy sticky white head. Aroma is oddly sweet, cheesy hops, stinky spicy, white wine, white vinegar notes, strangely pleasant. Flavor follows, the weird sweetness is a bit much, old toffee smooth rich caramel malts, cheesy spicy hops, touch of lemon/citrus. Medium bodied, lighter feeling, lots of sharp somewhat corse sizzling big carbonation.
