La Noreraie is brewed to an ancient traditional recipe: a barley beer, the beer of Gaul, the nipple of Jupiter, the walnut, the celebrated nut of the Romans. To taste a fresh La Noyeraie is to taste the full European pleasures of the palate. Beer flavoured with walnuts,

I picked one this up on a trip to France (Grenoble) in July of 2004. I found it in a tourist shop at the Bastille above the city and brought it all the way back to Perth in Western Australia. It’s definitely one of the most intriguing French beers I have ever rated . It pours a hazy lemon yellow with a medium small size white head. Aroma is medium strong floral sourdougy and tropical fruity - like a Belgian wheat beer only more floral and nectary. The body is soft and smooth and very pleasant on the tongue. Flavour is initially very wit like. Medium sweet sourdoughy with a light herbal and malty sweetness, Finish is quite sweet but still surprisingly dry and clean and not at all cloying. The fact that this beer is supposed to be flavoured with walnuts only manifests itself right at the very end with a nutty tartness typical of walnuts. Very easy drinking, I could easily imagine a whole afternoon slipping by with an indeterminant number of these going down.
