Anonymous aroma, a bit hazy with small, white head, golden/amber, hazy, light sourness, light bitterness, some citrus in the taste, a light beer, soft carbonation, all in all a bit anonymous. Not bad, but not a great beer either.

Cloudy amber-brown. Slightly fruity, grainy nose. Taste is sweet, with a slightly floral, honeyed aroma.

33cl bottle brought home from Italy - thanks dad! Pours murky brownish amber with huge off-white head that drops quickly. Aroma of hay, cereal and malt with distinct floral notes, light citrus, slightly perfumey. Also hints of bubblegum and fruit which I can’t quite place. Taste is honey sweet with low bitterness throughout. Some bread and malt. Fairly lively carbonation gets in the way of the taste a bit, but body is otherwise mild and somewhat creamy.

Bottle picked in the market in Porto San Giorgio during Shack’s wedding. Poured a mid amber colour with some yeasty cloudiness. Some malty smells. Rather thin palate, vaguely malty in character. Not much in the finish. Not unpleasant but all round quite dull, pretty surprised at the positive reviews.

75 cl bottle, 5.5%. Nice amber colour, big offwhite head, slightly hazed, fizzy look. Impressive nose of candy orange. Aroma has candy orange, ginger, with a balsamic mentha thing. Spalt gives an earthy feel, with soft grassy hops, taste is a bit flat and sweetish. Body is medium and highly carbonated, fairly dry finish. Peculiar perfumed one.

A beautiful thing to behold. A fountain of a head which just kept on developing. An ethereal murky look, like something alive in the glass. Beautiful reddish hue. A deep and meaningful beer indeed.

La Petrognola’s classic spelt beer is one of the true and simple brewing excellences of the Italian scene; it is made in the heart of the Garfagnana, a region in the valley of the Serchio river, not far from Lucca, and retains the earthy, rough and simple character of this beautiful land. It has a splendid and fresh spicy nose and offers a splendid sip both refreshing and complex with notes of pepper, citrus and fresh yellow fruit. This ale is sweet and a bit sour, with a primordial elegance; sure it is easy to drink, even without a strong bitter finish, and makes for one of the most recognisable and rewarding brews in the wide range of Tuscan micros, if not in the national scale. Viva la Petrognola!

Hazy white/yellow poor with a big amount of head. Tasty beer with a nice spice and yeast aroma but remains restrained which made it easily drinkable and enjoyable. Nice suprise
