2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Anonymous aroma, a bit hazy with small, white head, golden/amber, hazy, light sourness, light bitterness, some citrus in the taste, a light beer, soft carbonation, all in all a bit anonymous. Not bad, but not a great beer either.

Bottle picked in the market in Porto San Giorgio during Shack’s wedding. Poured a mid amber colour with some yeasty cloudiness. Some malty smells. Rather thin palate, vaguely malty in character. Not much in the finish. Not unpleasant but all round quite dull, pretty surprised at the positive reviews.

A beautiful thing to behold. A fountain of a head which just kept on developing. An ethereal murky look, like something alive in the glass. Beautiful reddish hue. A deep and meaningful beer indeed.

La Petrognola’s classic spelt beer is one of the true and simple brewing excellences of the Italian scene; it is made in the heart of the Garfagnana, a region in the valley of the Serchio river, not far from Lucca, and retains the earthy, rough and simple character of this beautiful land. It has a splendid and fresh spicy nose and offers a splendid sip both refreshing and complex with notes of pepper, citrus and fresh yellow fruit. This ale is sweet and a bit sour, with a primordial elegance; sure it is easy to drink, even without a strong bitter finish, and makes for one of the most recognisable and rewarding brews in the wide range of Tuscan micros, if not in the national scale. Viva la Petrognola!

Hazy white/yellow poor with a big amount of head. Tasty beer with a nice spice and yeast aroma but remains restrained which made it easily drinkable and enjoyable. Nice suprise

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 300 ml, as Classica. bottled July 2011. Yeasty, fruity aroma, peaches, orange, grass. The farro comes out for sure, and decent hops too. Very fragrant, some kind of flower, camomile? Also minerals. Deep orange-amber with a high, fine head. Very fruity flavor, grape, dry citrus, apples. Interesting. Yety, grassy, a bit metallic. Nice and rich; sweet fruits, but ends dry and mineral. Not very bitter, though. Very nice, and original

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

Bottle at Birreria del Pratello, Bologna, Italia, 25.02.11 Quite dark in this place. This place which had a decent selection of Belgian and German beers presented us with our first problem, we were trying to drink just Italian drinks all weekend, phew this was the only one they had and at 5.50 Euros a 75cl bottle not too bad a price. Pours hazy amber with white rim for a head. The hops show a little but there is a clinical cleanliness, bit of vanilla. A6 A3 T7 P3 Ov13 3.2
