Pours a dark reddish brown with a nice light tan head. The aromas are light roasted malts. The flavors are strong roasted malts and coffee, and not so sweet and slightly bitter. Very pleasant and well balanced brown beer.

Bottled. A mahogany brown coloured beer with no head. The aroma is malty with brown sugar, brown bread and alcohol notes. The taste is also nice and malty. Berry fruits and raisins amidst a woody background. A nice body and a real nice taste. Amazing how this brewery brews such variable beers.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Gee, where did I get this beer? I don’t remember. But it doesn’t really matter either, because these Combe Aux Loups beers are excellent. This one is filtered, dark mahogany-coloured, nice head. Malty, slightly coffeeish with a discreet sweetness. Extremely harmonic and well balanced. 091203

Interesting and unusually dark biere de garde (in my experience anyway). Had a hard time describing it but here are my notes: "Heavy" fruits (plums, dates?), medium sweet (caramel), light alcohol.

Sampled on a great bike tour in France in 2004 in various circumstances in unforgetable landscapes. Aroma and flavor of this brew is over average and not bad for a french microbrew.
