ForlornHope (359) - Hampshire, ENGLAND - MAY 22, 2016
Bottle at home. Pours near-black with dark red hints against the light. Large off-white head that fades to a tight layer of foam. Good aroma: dusty, roasted malt and a funky, peppery, nettle-like hop smell. A bit of sweetness to start, then a gentle bitterness to balance. Rich malt, some fruit and licorice flavours, with more nettle hop and a leafy taste that reminds me of Westmalle Dubbel. Not too strong, this is a very tasty and drinkable beer. I like it.

Tap @ basement beer bar, Aalborg. Aroma of caramel, chocolate malt. Hazy brown with tab head, mostly lasting. Taste is moderate sweet and light bitter. Medium body, oily feel, avg. carb., caramel finish.

Dark brown, near black. Head is slightly off-white, dense and quite persistent. Low lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruit notes and a herbal touch. Taste follows the aroma with good balance between sweet and bitter notes: roasted malt and caramel, dark fruit notes and a herbal/grassy finish that gives it a bitter touch and aftertaste that is not typical of brune beers, though it is still very much in check. Light to medium body, crispness is very low, smooth. Ok beer

Really dark brown colour. Lots of roasted malts in the aroma together with a little cocoa and coffee. Flavour has a lovely bitter sweet balance.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2016 Surprisingly dark. Very aromatic, roasted, dry nuts. Nice bitterness, quite strong for the style. Very dry ending. Great flavourful beer, one of the best brown Belgian ales for sure I?ve tasted in a long time. (75cl bottle bought at the brewery)
