3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a slightly hazy medium brown with a fluffy two finger tan head, great retention, and moderate sticky lacing. Nose is dark fruit, chocolate, brown sugar, cola. Taste starts out sweet and slightly tart, finishes moderately bitter and slightly tart, with a little spiciness. Medium body and slightly slick, with moderate to low carbonation, with a bitter slightly warming finish.
Yes, OK, it’s a wintereenmas beer, fine. I have to start paying more attention to expiry dates in my bottle shops - this one had a best before of February 2014 but I bought it in June. There’s no significant hop profile in this, but perhaps that can be attributed to being past its recommended maximum age of eighteen months. That being said, it doesn’t seem off in any way. An inoffensive Belgian dark, malt dominated and easy drinking.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Not what I expected. frothy head with nice lacing and lasts throughout. Smells of fruit, berries, nuts, yeast, candy and metal. Nutty and yeasty ester to begin with, really quite dry and not so sweet but still a bit of spice and a slight heat from booze at the end. Smooth on the palate good carbonation quite a bit lighter than expected as well. Different than most Xmas beers but still pretty good.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Thanks again to Greg. There was a stubbled, louche-looking elf on the label. Dark brown pour with a good-sized Belgian topper. A light amber-brown ale that seems more American than Belgian. It had a little (unwelcome) Coca-Cola flavor and light spiciness. There was a dash of earthy tang and some sweetness in the aroma. I didn’t really go for the astringent taste - it seemed amber-like to me, and I’m not a fan of most amber ales.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep brown color. Thin brown, while lace. Excellent texture. Strong roast smell, like double, slight chocolate nose. A bit weak, but good body, bold flavor, excellent finish.
