0.75 bottle. Dark red brown. Dark fruity, plums and raisins, yeast. Dark malts and some spices. Medium bodied, soft dark bready. A bit of hardish hops, not that subtle. A found this a bit bland, was expecting more from an xmas belgian. But quite nice anyway.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, tiny bubbled, well retained, light beige head, with a bit of lacing, over a clear, reddish amber (SRM 18) body.....nose is light dried fruits including plum, cherry, raisin, with light clove....taste is light toffee/caramel, light dried fruits, hints of dust, finishing dry with a medium bitterness.....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, mildly astringent, alcohol hidden, carbonation adds a creamy touch. This is a pleasant, nicely balanced, not overly complex beer. It is a lighter take on the style of dark Belgian Strong Ale. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

Blah. A rather tasteless and boring beer. Not much to it. Aroma was very weak. Could pick up some slight yeasty aromas but not much was there. Pour was a beautiful deep dark brown with ruby edges and a four finger off white head. Taste was as boring as the aroma. Not much flavor there. Was this a bad bottle? Very bland with a somewhat tart aftertaste. Literally not much flavor. Mild carbonation.

75cl Bottle from ABS Drinks Winksele. Hideous label btw, it keeps staring at you.. Anyway: Deep dark brown colour, creamy light beige head. Aroma of cocoa, bitter chocolate, light coffee, dusty dark malts, just a hint of spice. Flavour is light to medium sweet, dry, quite malty, dark malts, cocoa, bitter chocolate, hint of coffee, roasted malts, light fruity and mostly floral bitter finish with a touch of spice. Medium-bodied, soft and creamy mouthfeel. Good and subtle beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Foffern (728) - Bodø, NORWAY - JAN 3, 2013
Bottle at home. Pours a deep reddish brown colour with a creamy light beige and medium head. Wonderful, rich and fruity aroma of sweet dark berries, leather, peach and some hops. The flavour is balanced and nice with the same stuff, and more fruit, blackberries and pine. Rich and slick mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A nice Christmas ale that is well-balanced and with a small hoppy touch.

Monk’s Cafe, Philadelphia tap ($8): Pours brownish with a small off-white head. Aroma is earthy, fruity, yeasty, with a hefty bit of malt. Taste is dirty, but quite good. Malts provide touches of caramel, earth. Hops are present in small force. Some things I can’t quite place, but overall it was good.

bottle-conditioned 750ml. hazed brown body with a finely-bubbled tan head. dusty cookie dough / bran muffin malt and red apple / cherry / fruit cake ester aroma. medium-bodied with minor but noticeable acidic solvent notes as the carbonation releases across the middle and back. the carbonation is soft but the dark malts a bit too rough and starchy. light alcohol is noticeable as well when it breathes some, and the finish is mildly yeasty with more moderately sweet cookie dough / bread / fruit cake / etc. - a lot of fruity and caramelly red malt character. decent texture, aroma, flavor and look, but lacks depth and the yeast isn’t as expressive as I hoped.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maekchu (1086) - Hirakata, JAPAN - DEC 24, 2012
Bottle. Yeast, tobacco, and light sugary aroma. Very dark copper-brown with some ruby highlights, and a thick head. Fruit and a vegetal, earthy bitterness (cucumber), green peppers, and some good spice. Medium body. An interesting Christmas brew. Not overloaded with sweetness. Very pleasant.
