Dark green, big bottle shared with Skinnyviking. Opaque, dark-brown body topped by a decent, beige head leaving fragile lacing behind. Dark malt-fruity to the nose. Earthy malts, dark fruits and spices in a well balanced taste profile. Bittersweet finish. Well bodied (Plan B, Copenhagen 06.11.2010).

[3325-20100809] 750mL bottle. Brewery grain sacks aroma is mostly barley malt with a mild wood fruit hint. Clear, dark brown red body with a long-lasting creamy light mocha head and some lacing. Sweet toasted barley malt flavour has brewery burlap sacks and a lingering sweet malt aftertaste. Medium-full body. Does seem a little old but is fine.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is a dark brown with a bit of haze and a reddish hue in the right light. A thick off-white head to go with it all.
S: A typical BSDA aroma here, brown sugar, toffee, and caramel provide a good sugary base. Plenty of dark fruits to go along with it such as cherries, plums, and raisins.
T: More of the same on the palate. Brown sugar, toffee, and sweet molasses (which seemed a bit odd) and the plums and raisins are quite strong as well. A touch of some dark specialty malts too (Special B?).
M: The body is medium with a medium level of carbonation as well.
D: After my previous experiences with this brewery, I wasn’t in a huge rush to try this one. I was pleasantly surprised by it, however, and it turned out to be a good drinking experience.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2010-08-09. Crisp dark brown body with a massive beige head and lace. Sweet malty aroma, lightly fruity, raisins, sweet wort like touches, muted spice in aroma is familiar but I can’t quite place it. 7+ Flavour is similar, sweet malty base with pervasive soft fruit accents. Very lightly spiced. Smooth average plus palate borders on light at times. Interesting. I suspect it might be a bit more assertive when younger but pleasant as is. 3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle at La Trappe, price reduced to $18 since it’s out of season.
Excellent appearance - clear deep reddish-brown with a large frothy off-white head and thick lacing. A beautiful beer.
Sweet and fruity aroma. Lots of caramel and toffee malt notes, plum, prune, and cherry, and Belgian yeast.
Flavor starts off with sweet caramel malt and fruity notes, along with Belgian yeast, earth, and tobacco. It’s not too exciting at first, but there is an extra dimension to it on the finish, where it gives you one last blast of toffee and sweet plums and cherries.
Somewhat sweet on the palate, but not too much so, with medium-full body and somewhat lively carbonation.
Overall, this is an excellent "dark tripel." Really enjoyed drinking this and finished most of the bottle myself since I was with a bunch of lightweights.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle. 2006 vintage. Poured a woody brown in color with a tight, fluffy white head and a light fruity malt aroma. Flavor profile is very complex, yet soft and pleasing. The dominant flavors are summer fruits, yeasty bread, and aged tobacco. Really light, smooth mouthfeel and well rounded in body makes this one of my favorite belgian strong ales to date.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
In the 750 mL bottle from Dirty John’s Grocery. Pours a dark purple amber with a creamy and thick yellow ochre colored head. This beer’s appearance and its aroma are the best part. The aroma has a mild fruity blackberry raisin scent with an all too Belgian splash of cough medicine. The flavor was a bit of a disappointment as it seem rather bland and uninteresting with only a slight leather and tobacco. Would not have this one again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In bottle. Muddy toffee color, I can’t tell if that’s yeast or bubbles lingering mid-glass. Sweet fruity malt flavor. Tastes like toffee and chocolate and dried fruit. Reminds me of a German fruit chocolate bar in flavor. Yummy.
