3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml green bottle with a label depicting a somewhat drunk looking man with a santa hat, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is slightly hazy chestnut brown colored with a large beige frothy head, that settled slowly leaving a little lacing on the glass. Aroma of herbs, black currants, caramel, dried apricots, orange peels and spices. Flavours of herbs, caramel, dried apricots, orange peels, black currants and spices. Taste is medium-light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied, soft texture and average carbonation. La Rulles Cuvée Meilleurs Voeux is overall a tasty beer, for a Christmas beer it would have been even better stronger and spicier.

Tap at cml
Pours unclear brown, ok white head. Smell is aromatic sweet, earthy. Some caramel. Taste is bit bitter, chocolaty back. Right there in balance, to the bitter side. Easy drinkable but not a lot of depth. Nice

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2015 Tap at the Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Poured a murky dark brown with a thin white head and lots of clingy lace. The aroma is over ripe red berry fruit, yeast, strong alcohol. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a malt, fruit alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (750 ml). Split 3-ways with my brother and my father.
Appearance: Hazy reddish brown with a frothy quickly diminishing beige head and little lacing.
Aroma: Spices are dominating, but not overpowering. Toasted malt, light fruitiness, molasses and hints of chocolate.
Taste: Quite spicy with toasted malt, light fruitiness, dried raisins, molasses, berries and hints of chocolate.
Palate: Medium body. Moderate carbonation, but somewhat prickly. A tad watery mouthfeel. Spicy finish.
Overall: I like the way it’s spicy, but not cloying as this kind of beer tend to be way too spicy and to completely lack of balance. On the other side though, the body is weak, the carbonation level is too low and it’s still a Christmas Belgian Strong Ale (far from my favorite style). Good for the style, average for Brasserie de Rulles.
