3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Pours a deep reddish brown colour with a creamy light beige and medium head. Wonderful, rich and fruity aroma of sweet dark berries, leather, peach and some hops. The flavour is balanced and nice with the same stuff, and more fruit, blackberries and pine. Rich and slick mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A nice Christmas ale that is well-balanced and with a small hoppy touch.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Monk’s Cafe, Philadelphia tap ($8): Pours brownish with a small off-white head. Aroma is earthy, fruity, yeasty, with a hefty bit of malt. Taste is dirty, but quite good. Malts provide touches of caramel, earth. Hops are present in small force. Some things I can’t quite place, but overall it was good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle-conditioned 750ml. hazed brown body with a finely-bubbled tan head. dusty cookie dough / bran muffin malt and red apple / cherry / fruit cake ester aroma. medium-bodied with minor but noticeable acidic solvent notes as the carbonation releases across the middle and back. the carbonation is soft but the dark malts a bit too rough and starchy. light alcohol is noticeable as well when it breathes some, and the finish is mildly yeasty with more moderately sweet cookie dough / bread / fruit cake / etc. - a lot of fruity and caramelly red malt character. decent texture, aroma, flavor and look, but lacks depth and the yeast isn’t as expressive as I hoped.

Bottle. Yeast, tobacco, and light sugary aroma. Very dark copper-brown with some ruby highlights, and a thick head. Fruit and a vegetal, earthy bitterness (cucumber), green peppers, and some good spice. Medium body. An interesting Christmas brew. Not overloaded with sweetness. Very pleasant.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle. BBE 03/14. Pours a dark brown with a slight auburn tinge. A large, stylish, beige head. Aroma is quite common for a dark Belgian: Marzipan, caramel, apricot and peach, dried fruit. Light spiciness as well. Taste begins surprisingly mild, but becomes more potent later on. Caramel, crisp apple. Turns a bit sweet and later on herbal on the finish. Spicy and peppery as well. Palate is full and quite carbonated. Superbly drinkable.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Big beige head. Amber body with just-visible particles and
carbonation. Earthy licorice and banana aroma with rubbery spicy
notes. Dry-sweet earthy licorice and banana taste with spicy
notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish rubbery spicy
aftertaste with soy sauce notes. Wow. What a let-down! I’ve
loved everything else by Rulles, but this just totally flopped.
