JoeMcPhee (3865), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Oct 31, 2007 750 ml bottle. BB 10/09. Dark brown beer with a creamy tan head. Nice looking pour. The aroma has the classic Rulles herbal yeast character. Some straw and grass on the back with light herbal grassy hoppy notes behind the much more obvious dark malts. Some soft cocoa and light plumminess. Quite refreshing despite the dark malts and plummy sweetness. Figgy and sweet with a great integration of spicy/herbal yeasts and sweet malts. A touch of sourness and light zesty noble hops. Moderate bitterness balancing the malts. I quite like it. Good texture, with soft spice and a touch of chocolate on the back. The best beer I’ve had from La Rulles to date. Jerre (1423), Waregem, Belgium Jul 28, 2007 Bottle, 75 cl. (Thanks to Leen)
Tasted this yesterday evening with Paul.
Very dark brown almost black color with a small off white head. Aroma hops, malts, little spicy. Medium body. Taste caramel, roasted bitter, good in balance, a bit sour and little sweet.
Label says 7,3 % but taste like it’s a bit more.
nuplastikk (495), USA Oct 25, 2008 750ml bottle, uncorked. Murky brown-amber color with a fading head. Delicate, minimal sweet aroma. Malty, light brown sugar or caramel and yeast notes. Certainly a smooth sipper. Has been in my closet for almost a year, might have lost just a touch of effervescence. Creamy, rich, brown cocoa flavored finish. This is a nice Belgian Christmas Ale, though not as spiced as a typical example. ryan (1707), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Mar 27, 2007 Updated: Oct 5, 2007Tap at Max’s 72hrs of Belgium. Listed as Cuvee Des Voeux and at 9%ABV. Brown body with a small tan head. The aroma is vinous, light roast, candi sugar and very light cola. The flavor is vinous, berry, some chocolate, caramel and candi sugar. Medium body is very soft with light carbonation. Excellent. One of the best beers of the night. diabel (1211), Aarschot, Belgium Aug 12, 2007 Bottle Deep, black body with a deep brown shine. Rocky, light brown head. Sweetish aroma of liquor, strong malts (coffee, chocolate, liquorice), spices, ... Quite complex and well balanced flavour. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter flavour. Tastes lake a stout, malts and spices perfectly combined. Very well balanced and quite complex flavour. I think this is a brilliant beer.
