4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 3, 2005
freed from the bottle, this is an attractive ale, lovely orange hue, gushing carbonation, lush, large head, fluffy white.
Aroma, wondrous spice, tantalizing citric flavor, outsized yeast...seems the very picture of the biere de garde style. quite arousing.
Taste: plays easily on the palate, smooth and tasty, yum...big citric fruit, substantial spice...all in a very nice example of the style. Big mouthfeel, extremely drinkable, medium bodied, with a long, fruity, lemony, spicy finish.
I can easily recommend this one, but it doesn’t unseat any of the giants of the style.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2007 Poured a hazy orange color with a small, off white head, that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma reminiscent of Chimay White. Lots of musty citrus, light banana, and yeast in the aroma. Taste of spicy hoppiness, citrus fruits, melon, dry yeast, and a touch of alcohol in the finish. Solid, straight-forward tripel.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 sayravai (4654) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 10, 2005
UPDATED: NOV 20, 2010 (Bottled, 0.75l) Dark orange color with a medium, quite tight and lacy head. Dryish, even slightly sour, very fruity aroma with grassy hops. Medium-sour, slightly sugary, fruity flavor with bready-honeyish malt. ABV well hidden. Medium-bodied palate with quite high, but balanced carbonation. A nice and balanced, sourish tripel with some saisony dryness.

Bottle. Pours a ruby splashed gold with lots of minute particle suspended in it. Aroma is floral and yeasty with a nice spice and a light fruit note. Taste is spicy and fruity with a nice splash of yeast. Very flavorful. Light alcohol notes and a mild sweetness throughout. Body is medium with a moderate carbonation feel. Finishes with more spice and fruit notes. More sweetened malts as well. The sweetness delicately balances the yeast and floral notes. Nice tripel!

Dry, close to dusty. A bit of fennel spiciness, sharp, but then thin, watery, and surprisingly so. A bit of pepper and a bit appley fruit. Nice, but I thought it was going to be fuller. Very nice looking - quintessential even in it’s soft gold, of the earth color.

Large white head, great retention with gobulers of laceing left behind. A hazy blond hued ale. Spicey, peppery nose. Light/medium body. Fruity notes on the palate, hints of melons, black pepper and crusty bread. Dry, spicey finish.

Tosa Tasting. Hazy golden color with some fish food and a taller white head. Rose buds and pale malt aromas are full and forward. Flavors are of light peach and fruity in a perfume kind of way. Similar to Duvel but quite a bit more fruity, almost too much so. The aroma really helps this one.
