4 oz sample at Ottawa brew pub. Stout?? Scotch?? OK...clear deep mahogany with an off white rim. Slightly metallic with some fair coffee and roasted malt notes, lightly fruity, a little caramel, a touch of chocolate, weak. Medium body, medium and gentle effervescence. Reasonable roasted malts, a bit weak, hints of caramel, meh; dry with a little bitterness and a not unreasonable roasted malt finish.

Sample at the Ottawa brewpub - not sure it should go here since this was definitely not a stout but i will have to follow-up. Pale brown with a biege head. Semi-roasted malt, slightly fruity, nutty. Moderate carbonation, mild, slight bitterness, some cardboard, becomes somewhat dry.

Nice color and head... Tastes like a boring standard brown, unfortunatelly little watery and bad side-tastes..

Sampler from brewpub Reims as Les 3 Brasseurs Brune. Brownish coloured, medium sized off-white head, caramel nutty nose. Roasted malty aroma with notes of caramel and discreet hint of spices in the finish. Dry bitterish finish. Unfortunately just average.

1L stein. Reddish brown carrying an oatmeal cap. Smells like roasted and caramel malt. Taste is similar. Nothing special here. Forgettable.

Bottle. [thanks Søren & Feldthaus]
Pours deep chestnut with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has chocolate, prunes, light liqourice. Highish carbonation, light and slightly dry mouthfeel. Flavour is lightly roasted, chocolate, liqourice, mild malty bitter. Some coffee notes in the finish.

On tap at the Toronto brewpub. Pours a dark, slightly reddish, dark brown with large tan head that leaves some lace. Aroma is smoke, nuts and coffee. Flavour is roasty coffee and nuts with a lingering roastiness in the finish. Medium body. Ok.
