Bottled 25cl. My version was at 7,5 ABV. Courtesy of Bov. It pours a dark murky mahogany beer with a bubbly beige head. Strong aroma of roasted malt, candy, vanilla, orange peel, plum, tobacco, ginger, cress, faint horse blanket and candied apricot- very nice and inviting. Full bodied. Complex taste with a good bitterness. Lovely hints of vanilla, plum, apple and orange peel emerge. Peppery. Not much lacework. Faintly lactic and surprisingly fruity. Some marmite sneaking in. Long dry finish which is reminiscent of vanilla, dark chocolate and tobacco. I love the vanilla notes! A great beer with a lot of character and complexity. Thanks a lot Bov!

(Bottle 33 cl) Bottle no. 16 - aged version, best before 08. 2003. Pours a hazy, dark brown with an orange glow and an off-white head. Vinous aroma. Medium-bodied with plenty of roasted malt. Rather complex flavours with accents of dried fruit and a vinous, lightly tart edge without much bitterness. Also this Sierrvoise really has aged with grace. Thanks to fiulijn. 080506

Beer coloured as (opaque) cola; head too, but creamy and rather steady. Nose with sweet chocolate and dark grain. Sharp-sourish taste, typical for dark barley-like grains, but unfortunately going over temporarily in a sweet liquorice flavour. Finish is again sourish-grainy. I seem to get quite some lactic acid. Medium bodied; sour, but not sharp aftertaste. Bit of alcoholburn ( 8%, after all). Quite enjoyable beer. But compared to some of the French, and especially Brittany’s dark barley beers it lacks a bit in character. The extra alcohol doesn’t see to that. It’s too sour for a stout.
