375ml bottle. Very frothy with a mountainous head of compact white foam above a hazy apricot coloured beer. Tart sour aroma with a flavour to match. Very lively and zingy in the mouth and it certainly wakes up the taste buds.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Loving the label. Cool seeing this style come out of Australia more regularly now as well. The nose is very reminiscent of that familiar yeasty note which comes from Dupont, but again, like bluebetty said, reminds me a lot of a tripel on the nose and in the taste. A touch of sweetness works well in this. A little hoppier than the traditional belgian counterpart but its nice. Spices and lemon morange mingle nicely. Very refreshing with a spot on dry finish. Great work

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2012 Not clear where this is actually brewed, but I’d guess somewhere near Northcote. Bottle. Straw-coloured with a large white head. Aroma of sweet and some tart apples, earth, vanilla, cloves, slight blue cheese. Taste is moderately sweet with vibrant spices Peaches, apples, light sugars, coriander, vanilla, cardamon pods, white pepper. The taste is less rustic than suggested by the aroma. Finish is dry and spicy. Perhaps a little overcarbonated. Good. [3.6]
Second batch. Modest head. Lower carbonation, a little less sweetness. Hard to say whether there’s there’s more tartness or just that it stands out more. Dry with spicy bitterness at the finish. Really convincing stuff.

Bottle at Atticus Finch. Exceptional, very creamy, and with great balance. Aromas of butter and vanilla. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and long length. Palate is creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Yellow, cloudy, with a massive frothy head.

Pours straw yellow with a large, white head.
Nose shows citrus, banana, and spicy phenols. Pretty spot-on for the style.
Flavours include soft light malt, hay notes and soft spicy hops, all rounded off by a dry, slightly tart finish.
Carbonation is a bit full-on.

Bottle thanks to hawthorne00. Pours very light straw. Somehwat cloudy. Huge billowy bright white head. Aromas of light bready malt with lots of spiciness and plenty oif fruit showng through. Plenty of yeast character as well. Flavours are quite sweet with the yeast character coming through on the finish. LIngering slight sour finish. Medium mouthfeel with lots of carbonic bite. Reminds me more of a triple than a saison especially with the yeast character.

Seriously impressive packaging (though I’d prefer something more environmentally friendly!) for an impressive beer. Distinctly coconutty phenolics just like a Bocq beer which isn’t all that different to the phenol profile in Dupont. (I thought bluebetty’s comment about it being more like a tripel a bit odd before tasting it, but it’s spot on with respect to the phenolics. Not that I have a problem with it.) Authentically Belgian malt flavour, with a touch of sweetness but handled well. Subtle tropical esters with some orange juice, at a level more in line with good Belgian saisons than most Aussie attempts. Finishes extremely dry with a hint of anise, not that bitter. I’d like more hop throughout, but otherwise this is a seriously rare bird - an Australian beer that I’d probably pick as Belgian if tasting blind. Impressive stuff, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for new (hopefully hoppier!) batches.
