COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Socarrada is a "gastro-ale," or food-pairing golden ale made with only, water, malts (pils/amber), hops, yeast, rosemary, and rosemary honey. La Socarrada pours a beautiful golden-amber color with a light, white, non-persistant head. The nose is wonderfully appetizing, filled with rosemary, rosemary-honey, and a light bread-like quality. The taste is full of rosemary, rosemary honey, and fruity characteristics along the lines of pear, apple, and fig. There is also a distinct gingery bite as well as a light note of black pepper. The body is both crisp and pleasantly dry. It is recommended to be served around 45į in a white wine glass or snifter.

Light amber color out of the cute little champagne bottle with a fizzy off white head. Nose of honey and rosemary. I get a medicinal sense out of this which interferes with my enjoyment a little. Rosemary flavors with some soap, honey, and spice. Sort of like a rosemary scone. Too much carbonation on the tongue. Interesting beer....

Pours hazy golden with white head and good lacing. Aroma is all sweet rosemary. Taste strong with rosemary and nice malt background and light honey aftertaste. Overall a good beer with dinner.

Lovely herbal aroma, hints of rosemary and honey. Beautiful golden hoeny color, white head, tiny bubble and lacing. Wonderful rosemary and honey notes, balanced malt profile. Mediun body. Overall I love this beer!

On tap. Pours with a clear golden hued body with a mostly retentive white head. Aromas are sweet, fruity, estery. Rosemary, grapefruit and ginger. Medium alcohol, mildly acidic. Flavors are spicy and sweet with strong rosemary. Off dry finish, lightly spicy, some alcohol flavor noticeable for the low-ish abv. Lively bubbles, medium-low bodied.

bottle-conditioned 330ml. lightly hazed amber body with a very thin white head and little retention. heavy ginger and star anise / licorice nose with minimal malt or hop expression and only a light doughy yeastiness. medium body, medium sweetness, low bitterness, medium to medium-high acid. very much like ginger ale in the flavor, and if it werenít for the barely-noticeable alcohol and round, chewy body, I would guess blind that this is soda. itís effervescent, sweet and spicy with no noticeable hop flavor but some bitterness. Iím really surprised to see no ginger in this beer at all, but I can see how the rosemary gives a similarly spice / root / bitter vegetable leaf (bay leaves?) flavor. canít say itís something I enjoy that much, but itís made rather well, no noticeable flaws. a little too sweet for my liking, and unidimensional ginger (i mean rosemary) flavor throughout.

Pretty gold with a little lacing. Nose started out as rosemary with some greeneness and honey then got a bit stinky. Drinks almost like an IPA with the honey rounding out the mouthfeel then black pepper spiceyness and some rosemary then a honey sweetness and more black pepper. Quite interesting and much better than what itís rated.

33 cl, bottle. Copper color; head size is average; creamy and quite long lasting; diminishes into a compact and wide film. aroma is a punch of rosemary and honey. body is alcoholic, oily mouthfeel, low carbonation. The rosemary taste seemed too overwhelming to me. Not very well balanced.

Bottle. Pours cloudy golden with a big creamy off-white head. Aroma of herbal honey. Taste is light sweet red ripe fruits, some sugars and honey, lacks a bit in the hop division, unbalanced and sweet, still interesting.

The rosemary here is just more pleasant on the nose than the palate. Smells like a rosemary forest. But upon drinking, one soon discovers the rosemary is truly alone. No interest from the yeast, no backing from malt, and no balance from hops. Really an interesting beer, and I am not sorry to have tried it, but it just doesnít have the complexity that would have made it great.
