La Socarrada is a "gastro-ale," or food-pairing golden ale made with only, water, malts (pils/amber), hops, yeast, rosemary, and rosemary honey. La Socarrada pours a beautiful golden-amber color with a light, white, non-persistant head. The nose is wonderfully appetizing, filled with rosemary, rosemary-honey, and a light bread-like quality. The taste is full of rosemary, rosemary honey, and fruity characteristics along the lines of pear, apple, and fig. There is also a distinct gingery bite as well as a light note of black pepper. The body is both crisp and pleasantly dry. It is recommended to be served around 45° in a white wine glass or snifter.

Pours a very cloudy, dark golden orange color with tangerine colored edges and a one finger white head that quickly settles into a lasting ring. Decent retention with spotty lacing left behind. Visible carbonation bubbling up as well. Earthy aroma with grassy hops, ester-y yeast and a prominent rosemary/herbal character. The hops are slightly stale in the nose with a dirt/soil like quality. There’s also hints of grass and pine followed by bread and light fruit. I’m not picking up honey at all but the rosemary stands out and smells really fresh. Pale biscuit malts underneath. Medium bodied, crisp and refreshing. More complex and interesting than the aroma suggests. Soft carbonation with some earthy hop bitterness up front nicely complimenting the herbal rosemary flavor. Again, the rosemary is very fresh and a prominent ingredient but it doesn’t completely overpower the other notes. Sweeter than expected, possibly from the honey and light fruit esters. Pale malt backbone with biscuit, cracker and bready yeast along with some apple, pear and vinous sweetness. I didn’t expect much after the somewhat bland aroma but found this to be a solid beer that’s well balanced, light and flavorful.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2015 Cloudy light orange. Large head, medium to high retention. Hay, thyme, a bit of bay leaf and a honeyish touch in the aroma. Leveled bitter and sweet. Light body and half way to thick texture

Bottle into a tulip. Pours a cloudy orange/amber, with a medium white head that quickly fades. Nose is strong spice and rosemary notes. Taste is spicy but thin, with notes of honey, rosemary and a subdued ginger component. The mouth feel is thin, but the finish is long. OK as an occasional change of pace, but lacks substance.

Cor âmbar escuro/marrom claro leitosa/turva, espuma rala, de pouca duração, algumas partículas suspensas. Aroma intenso adocicado, resinal, amadeirado. No paladar aparece mel, novamente resinal, pinho, pouquíssimo amargor. Aftertaste mantém as características do paladar, me lembrou a Moylands Kilt Lifter, só que menos potente. Em geral boa, paladar diferenciado, vale experimentar.

Bottle 33cl. Pours pale amber to golden, with a whitish head (frothy and unstable). The liquid is slightly hazy. The aromas bring herbal notes, probably due to the rosemary, and rather malty. As for the taste, the beer is fairly sweet but nonetheless interesting. The sweetness is mitigated by the bitter flavours, which yields it drinkable and more pleasant. Oily to creamy, but not thick. The carbonation is quite soft and it has a long finish. Enjoyable and different. View it as an artistic interpretation of beer instead of a regular one.
