75cl bottle at home (26 VII 2016), shared with friends. French farmhouse styled brew, which colours very orange - unnaturally orange even -, hazy, with a yellow or off white collar. The foam is very vividly and welcoming. The nose has sublte herbs and hoppy features, black pepper, faint fruity aromas, different wheaty and malt hints. The taste is quite lovely, far less hopped than an Orval, yet with the same bone dryness. The alcoholness is warming yet medium strong, making this beer rather quenchable. There are sugary notes in the mouthfeel too, hinting at banana, sweet fruits, even some caramel. A modest, yet not that bad bière de garde.

4.25€ Leclerc Bailleul Arôme de miel assez fort, amertume bien présente, houblonée, fines bulles et mousse qui tient peu. Pas désagréable, sans plus.

Commissioned bière de garde on 75 cl bottle with cork. Cream white, moussy, sticky head, warm yellowish blonde colour with fierce sparkling. Aroma of kiwi, green apple, freshly grated ginger, white grapes, honey, celery, sour cream, orange and hay. Fresh citrussy onset with sharp, mineral-like carbonation, sweetish malts, bit honeyish, light mouthfeel, dry powdery yeastiness, bit sourish, retronasal fruitiness, sweetish taste lingers but is countered by a late subtle hop bitterness and somewhat astringent, badly hidden alcohol.

Sweetish aroma, some vegetal hints. Fuck, in the mouth this is just vegetables everywhere. Rich malty body, but mashy and too damn vegetal.

750mL bottle at Churchkey thanks to Travlr. Thanks Gene! We thought we ordered La Choulette de Noel, but it came without a label so it was all Russian roulette here. Poured a clear light-orange/yellow color with a touch of a creamy white head, carbonation. Aroma was some peppery notes, with some funky character. Sparkling, highly carbonated - pretty sure infected - but enjoyable, fun to drink.

Last bottle at ChurchKey, courtesy of me. Almost a gusher. Cloudy straw color, massive white head. Aroma of dusty hay. Taste is hi carbonation earthy straw.

750ml bottle at Churchkey. Big pop when the cork comes off. Pours a clear orange with some lacing, creamy head. Big, fruity nose, spice, clove, hints of brett. Not funky, but a little grassy. Flavor is sweet, malty, spicy, grass, tropical fruit, caramel, clove, some ginger, white pepper. Full bodied, sticky finish. Decent.
